POV: Drake
Okay, so I can deal with a psycho-ego-maniac ex-girlfriend. Psychos and gothic kids seemed to gravitate towards me in all of the schools I’ve been to. Must be the whole vampire thing.
“Come on, Cindy, we’ve been broken up for three months. You don’t think that it’s okay for me to like other girls?” I approached the blonde-haired freak cautiously. I really shouldn’t be talking with the whole freak thing…
“Come on Drakie-poo, I know you want to get back together with me, I mean, just look at all you’re missing,” Cindy gestured towards her body. Ew, I never liked that nickname. Note to self: Move towns soon.
Move towns… “Cindy, I didn’t want to have to tell you like this, but we’re moving soon, sorry.” Inside I was leaping for joy when she stomped her foot and stormed off. Now I just had to get home and tell my parents none of the girls were my girl.
You see, all vampires are given a soul-mate of sorts. The whole thing is sort of like “I can’t live without her blood” sort of thing. Oh, and almost all of the vampires born are boys, it’s rare to be born a girl vampire. A girl vampire is usually born after a boy vampire is born. This basically means that I’m a vampire, my dad’s a vampire, one of my younger sisters is a vampire, and my mom and my other sister are humans.
I decided to run home that evening and, in case you’re wondering, no I don’t sparkle. I think it’s kind of stupid how they portray vampires in some books, I mean, get this. I live in the woods. I don’t kill anything. I sparkle. What am I? That’s a pixie, not a vampire!
I got home about ten minutes later. “Hey Dad!”
“Hey Son!” My dad called back, he was very sarcastic sometimes. I laughed.
“No luck,” I said simply.
“Next move?” He asked.
“Alaska would be nice.”
“Don’t think with your head boy, think with your gut. Where is your gut telling you to go?”
We live in Texas right now. My gut’s pretty much telling me to get cooler weather. This much heat cannot be good for someone’s health. I thought harder. What else was my gut telling me? Blood. My stomach was growling. Who can listen to their gut on an empty stomach? I thought even harder, I need to focus right now.
Listen to your heart. Nice, old wise words from the grandparents. That’s just what I need, more body parts to listen to. Listening…Listening…
“Indiana,” I said calmly, and it felt right.
