It was 20 minutes after Amal left that I stood up, I paced back and forth trying to keep my mind still. I wasn't sure what to do or what I could even say to retaliate. Amal caused damage to not only his family but to him. Not only that but she exposed the identity of the twin's mother, which is her, to the entire world. No one was aware at all until now. The girls weren't even aware of who she was since she left them at only a few months old.
This changed everything and life for them would only get harder from here.
The media spins stories so easily and can easily spread any lie she's willing to tell. This is bad.
Sitting back in the chair trying to calm my apprehension, I grasp Rafael's palm in between both my hands and lean my head against them. My foot tapped against the floor as my mind began running in overdrive. Wondering what this could mean for me and Rafael. Wondering just how this will affect his family and his overall life.
He worked so hard raising the girls and making a name for himself other than Rafael Simmons's son. His business ventures were going great, and he is doing amazing things in this world for so many people, Amal's actions can easily hurt all he's worked so hard to achieve.
A low groan echoed into the room entering my ears and my body stilled. Rafael's hand trembled between mine slightly and my head shot up catching his eyes clenching. He's awake? He's awake! Watching as he slowly shuffled into a more comfortable position, I held onto him making sure he was okay.
Letting out a low breath, his eyes opened slowly as a tear dropped out of my own. As he blinked several times adjusting to the bright lights, his gaze shifted around the private room in the hospital before landing on me.
"Elizabeth..." he breathed out relaxing his frame with a small smile.
Wiping underneath one of my eyes with a slight smile, I open my mouth to speak when the door bursts open. His mother walks in with tray of drinks as the girl's trail in beside her with noise canceling headphones placed on their ears. Rafael Sr. is the last to walk in with a neutral expression on his face holding the girl's backpack's.
I've met Rafael senior about a handful of times and each time he has been the perfect gentlemen although seemingly brooding. He helped me with different things pertaining to my career and was easy to speak with. I could also tell however, when seeing him with Veronica the amount of love in his eyes for her and their family. Especially his granddaughters which he spoils rotten.
"Daddy!" The girls screamed out bounding over to the bed jumping in beside him.
"Girls!" I exclaim before seeing Rafael shake his head holding them closer kissing the top of their heads.
Letting them have their moment, his mother came beside me handing me a cup of tea and I thanked her with a smile. His father sat across from us on the opposite side of the bed turning off the television. He swiftly took the headphones off the girls as they told their father about the field trip at school.
I looked at the headphones with furrowed eyes before his father caught my gaze.
"The reporters outside were brutal, Liz," He stated before holding the headphones up, "While pulling up outside, I put these on the girls so they wouldn't hear a thing. They kept throwing questions about you know who and trying to speak to the girls."
I nodded while looking as they talked animatedly with their father laying on either side of his body. Rafael stayed in a trance listening to the girls as he ran a hand through their hair.
"She was here. About 25 minutes ago," I stated softly causing his father and mother to look at me. Rafael looked up at me for a moment his eyes lingering before looking back to his girls.
"What did she say?" His mother asked in a clipped tone crossing her legs.
"That she will be back in your lives, all of your lives."
His mother was quiet for a moment, but I could tell she was beginning to get angry. Standing up, she walked out of the room dialing numbers onto her cellphone and his father followed her out attempting to calm her down. Rafael watched the two of them heading out of the door and kissed his daughters' foreheads.
"Why don't you two catch up with Pa. I need to speak with Elizabeth for a second."
The two girls nodded jumping out of bed following where their grandparents went off leaving just the two of us. Sipping on my tea I avoided his gaze, suddenly I was feeling too nervous. I wasn't sure exactly why.
Taking in his appearance, I feel tears come back to my eyes once more and begin overflowing.
"Elizabeth..." He sighs taking the cup from my hands placing it on the table before pulling me into a hug.
"You're hurt," I managed to mutter out wrapping my arms around his neck.
"I'm okay, I barely feel a thing," He spoke against my neck causing a shiver to travel down my back.
I tried to calm down as his arms tighten around me hushing my shuddering body. All those thoughts that went to mind and feelings of when I found out he was hurt rushed forward. I went from flowing with tears to full on shaking and sobbing. Rafael still held me caressing my back whispering words into my ears to calm me.
"Hey, hey. Elizabeth, it's okay."
Pulling back from my shaking body he cupped my cheeks wiping them tears that stained them.
"I'm okay Elizabeth."
I nod my head slowing my breaths as I looked at him.
"I thought I had lost you for a moment. I didn't think I would've had time to say how I felt," I spoke biting onto my lip.
"Felt about what?" he asked looking deep into my eyes.
Putting my hands over his that sat on my cheeks, I looked at him.
"I love you, Rafael. I'm so in love with you and when you got hurt all I thought was that I would never get the chance to tell you. But I knew the second you woke up I had to say something and there it is. I love you."
