As Rafael's mouth opened to utter words I knew would have changed everything, the door of his suite opened wide with a slam. Maria and Angelica, his younger sisters walked in with neutral yet angered expressions on their faces.
Clearly, they had seen what happen several hours ago.
Angelica was more like Rafael; they were business centered and very family oriented. Rafael took over their father's corporation and Angelica over their mothers. Maria had been the one to move on a different path and became a model and travel blogger. While Maria was the down to earth and sweet fashion icon, Angelica was the badass and assertive businesswoman.
I had met the two a month into working for Rafael. They were a bit skeptical at first of the new woman in their families lives but had come around and warmed up to me. Even knew of my crush on their brother and had wished I said something.
Scooting off the bed back to my previous seat, Rafael was about to protest before getting cut off when his sisters began hugging him. He rubbed their backs, yet his piercing gaze never left mine. It made me squirm as I looked away briefly at my phone. It was late and the girls would need to sleep soon.
"How are you feeling?" Maria asked softly looking over his bruises.
"Better, it's not as bad as it looks," He sounded out motioning to his scrapes and bruises.
"Don't worry, they caught the guy. Mother fucker tried to do a hit and run on my brother; he has another thing coming!" Angelica scoffed crossing her arms leaning against the wall, "I'll sue him for everything he's got."
"No need Angelica," Rafael stated sitting up, "Obviously he'll get what he deserves in terms of hitting and running but I need nothing more from the man."
"But-"." Angelica was cut off by the look on her younger sisters face and nodded, "Fine."
"And about Amal?" Maria whispered under her breath glancing at me for a moment before Raf.
"Ma said she will handle it; I'll probably have to speak with my publicist and lawyer about it too."
Angelica nodded in agreement and understanding of how dirty things were going to get from here. Their parents entered soon after with a sleeping Nazanin in their father's arms and Azita who looked ready for bed holding his hand.
Pulling my handbag cross my body, I walk up to Rafael Sr. and Azita comes over taking my hand, "I'll take them home, it's okay. Besides Rafael needs his rest."
"Elizabeth it's fine, I'm not even tired and we-," Rafael let out a yawn and I could see the drowsiness behind his eyes.
"Rest Raf, it's fine. I'll help you bring them down," Rafael Sr. spoke.
I nodded as Azita walked over to her father saying goodbye to which he kisses the top of her head. Azita then grabs her sister's bag and her own before grabbing my hand once again. Rafael Sr. put the headphones back onto the girls kissing their foreheads then my own. I was shocked for a moment but shook it off leaving the room with a quick goodbye yet feeling his eyes follow me out.

Closing the door Azita's room after finally putting her to rest, I let out a large sigh sliding down a wall in the long hallway in the house. All the pent-up feelings of everything that had gone on today finally weighing down.
Once leaving the hospital room, the walk was calm with small talk between his father and I. However, once reaching the doors to leave the hospital flashing lights and cameras swarmed us and the children. Spewing questions about Amal, Rafael's wellbeing, and the lies in the family.
It was not only disrespectful but unbelievable how invasive they truly were. Kenny managed to get through as well as guards for the family helping us into the vehicle. His father helped strapping the girls in and closed the doors wishing us a safe ride. From there it was smoothing sailing although lingering men outside the gates of the home.
And this was just one day. Who knows what will happen once Rafael is released?
Laying my head back, I closed my eyes. I was exhausted; having to deal with their mother, the mini heart ache at finding out he was in the hospital, and me spilling my heart to him. It was too much for the day, I needed rest. A buzzing sounded into my ears as I looked down at my purse.
Reaching inside, I unlock my phone seeing a message from Rafael.
You know, we were never able to finish our conversation... - Rafael
A small smile makes it way to my lips before I wipe it off my face.
You know you're supposed to be resting, supposed to be getting better. – Elizabeth
Dots appearing on the screen as he types, and I cross my legs awaiting his response.
I feel good, I'm okay really. How are you doing? How are the girls? – Rafael
We got here okay minus the overload outside the hospital, the girls are doing okay and are asleep. I hope you really are okay and are not just telling us that, so we don't worry. - Elizabeth
Dots appear once more but stop. Tilting my head I wonder, maybe the nurse is checking in on him but a call rings in. Him.
"Yes..." I hum crossing my arms.
"I am okay, really. Just some overall pain but nothing the meds can't take care of."
"Good, I don't want you in pain or stressed from all that's going on."
"Elizabeth..." He pauses for a moment, "In that moment, the millisecond before the crash all I could think of was my family and you. I was so scared of what I didn't do, didn't have the chance to say either. But now during all of what's going on in my life, I know how short life is. How I need to cherish each moment, each person before it's gone. That being said, Elizabeth, I have something important I want to tell you, just not over the phone. So please, let Maria inside, she should be at the front door now to watch the girls for the night, and come to me."
