Ship in a glass bottle and always will be one', it's the most alluring way one has ever described the metal pill in the sea's throat.
Submarines were an obscure toy, no more palpable than the the shadows of moths on the ceiling, it was rare to find a kid that jumped into the metal capsule to seal themselves under meters of water for months in order to goggle at crooked fish. Those who took the job were fanatics, obsessed with the thick marine glass and the close hold of pressure, adrenaline junkies if you will. There was no way of sugarcoating the job - either way it was an odd wish.
Those who did sign themselves up for the risky tours, were total science maniacs. They were the ones deprived from daylight with their ghostly pale skin and a broken sleep schedule slumbering the ways of pipes and bolts all across plumed corridors. They slept on strap-on bunk beds with leather belts, took turns at the cabin at poked at the windows with their fingers knowing fair well that they will be scolded by the rest of the cabin crew for leaving trace marks.
The ship itself was a lab like labyrinth which oddly resembled a rocket, some passes as narrow as rabbit hole with twitching light bulbs. It's habitants knowing their ways snooping through the tunnels, grey overalls wrapping their limbs slowly became a part of the lowest sea levels themselves.
Felix set a wide grin in the dim lighting of the cabin as he held his fan of cards with a pinch of his thumb and index finger. Days were likely to grow monotone and boring on the ship so the crew was used to entertaining themselves in any ways they new - card games was a good example of such.
Minho wiggled his eyebrows as he shot down a card onto the built-in plastic table. "Pick up two." He said with a suppressed snigger.
Felix's cheeks twitched as a devilish glint in his eyes accompanied a giggle. "Not so fast. pick up... four!" Another plus two card was slapped over Minho's.
The older pouted, inspecting his array of torn uno plastics. He glanced back at Felix, repeating his words with a mocking manner as he collected four more cards from the pile and admitting his defeat to the other's delight.
"Having fun?" Came a voice from behind.
Jisung stood tall in the narrow door frame with an apple mash pipe juice for a snack, Hyunjin peeking from behind his shoulder.
"Your lover's losing again." Said Felix teasingly.
Minho rolled his eyes, pursing his lips into a thin line. "The kid's cheating, I can feel it."
A low creek came from somewhere in the poorly illuminated cabin, a light flickered, reflecting Hyunjin's sharp features. Felix sighed, scraping at the cards with his nails as he began tidying them back into the old uno box. "Who's on night duty?"
"Heh, night duty" Repeated after him Jisung. None of them could know for sure if it was night or day after all, "I think Hyunnie is staying behind."
"I'm tired though." Muttered Hyunjin to himself as he picked at at thread at his waistband. "I stayed back on tuesday, feels like you guys are just targeting me at this point."
"We are." Minho cracked his back as he unfolded himself from the sitting position, a drawn out yawn mocking Hyunjin's pout.
"Suck it up pretty boy." Jisung patten Hyunjin's shoulder as he gestured for Minho to follow him down the first floor of the cabin crew bunk beds. A treacherous buzz indicating the beginning of the night shift still went off through the staticky radio and Hyunjin glanced back at Felix who was picking stuff up from the table.
"Can't we just skip night shift?" Whined Hyunjin to the blonde, "It's pointless anyway, I've been spotting only lanternfish for the last what seems like decade,"
