a poison apple falls to my hand
i did not eat it
wish I had
but instead i gave it away
to a friend
who was dead the next day
of course i grieved
yes i did
but what got under my skin
the apple that was left untouched
not bitten
never crunched
and so then
another friend
accepted the apple
without a battle
and then again
I lost a friend
of course I grieved
yes I did
but what got under my skin
the apple that was left untouched
not bitten
never munched
instead of losing another friend
i took a bite and then
the apple sweet
had taken me to another place
my friends I did see
all of their faces
haunting scolding
as they stare
at the apple core
in my hand
