Chapter 60: Backup

Cole's Pov

With the thought of getting back friends with Luna, I went to school. I spot her opening her locker, and I walk towards her, but my feet stop walking as I see Ray approaching Luna.

"Hey, How are you?", He asks her.

" I am good, how are you", I am just ten feet away from them, and I can hear perfectly whatever they both are talking.

"I miss you, Luna",

What the hell?

" What?", Luna looks at you puzzled.

"Yes, I miss you, Luna, I regret breaking up with you",

" You have already told me that",

When? And why I don't know about this?

"But I haven't told you that I want to get back together with you"

What is he saying? After cheating on Luna with her best friend, he dares to tell Luna that he wants to get back together, with her.

But again, Luna wanted the same thing. She wanted him to come back to her. The existence of My and Luna's relationship was to make Ray jealous.

" You have a girlfriend, Ray", Luna reminds him.

"Britney and I broke up, and I have heard you and Cole also broke up",

" Yeah, we did",

"So will you give me a chance, I promise I will never hurt you again"?

" Ray",

"Please Luna, give me a chance, I will never break your heart again", he takes her hand, making my blood boil.

Instead of pulling her hand back, she says," Okay, I will give you a chance", my feet stumble. I feel like my whole world has collapsed under my feet.

"Thank you, Luna, thank you so much", he hugs her.

I have realized now Luna and I can never be friends. And I think the only reason I wanted to be friends with her, was in the hope that one day she will fall in love with me, but now looking at Luna and Ray in each other embrace. My all hopes have scattered. And now I am hundred percent sure that Luna Brown will never be mine.

Luna's Pov

My decision to get back together with Ray is rational and practical. I got into a fake relationship with Cole, just to make Ray jealous so that he can realize what he has lost, and now when the plan has worked and Ray wants to get back together with me. Why am I standing anxiously outside his room?

I am thinking too much, maybe because of this, I am feeling anxious, or maybe I am feeling anxious in a good way.

Luna, stop overthinking this, you are doing the right thing.

I tell myself and taking a deep breath I knock on the door.

Ray opens the door, and a smile spreads over his face when he sees me, "You have come",

" Yeah",

He takes my hand and leads me to the balcony.

"Wow", I exclaim at the view in the front of my eyes. Ray has arranged a candlelight dinner.

" I did this all only for you", he tells me.

"Please take a seat", he pulls a chair for me, looking at him in surprise I sit on the chair. Ray has never pulled a chair for me, nor did he have done anything romantic for me. Honestly speaking, when we were together, he always took me for granted.

He sits opposite me and asks, "I hope you liked all this?",

" Yeah, I did" I smile to assure him, "I did not know when you asked me to come to your house today, you were asking me for the date",

" I didn't tell you purposely because I wanted to surprise you",

"You never did anything like this when we were earlier together",

" Yeah, I know", he says in a serious tone.

He gets up from his seat and kneels in front of me, and takes my hand," Lu, but I have changed now, and I wanted to show you that, and now I have realized that", he stops and looks into my eyes.

"What you have realized?",

" That I love you", he tells me and touches his lips to mine.

I close my eyes, and Cole's face appears in front of my eyes," Cole", the name of my ex fake boyfriend comes out from my mouth and I pull my lips back.

"What the hell?", Ray looks at me shocked.

I am also shocked. I am shocked, more than Ray. Why Cole's face appeared in front of my eyes? Why I was thinking about him while Ray was kissing me? Why his name came out from my mouth while kissing Ray? The answer to all these questions I already knew. It was already there deep down unattained corner of my heart, but when light has spread on that part of my heart now. I know all the answers to these questions.

"Did you say Cole", Ray asks.

" Yes, I did",

"Why?",

" Because I love him",

"What?",

" Yes! I love Cole", I tell him smiling happily.

"But I thought you want to get back together with me and I thought you love me", he looks at me dejected.

"I also thought I love you, but I think I was in love with the idea of you, the heartthrob of Rovera High School, not the real you, I am sorry for giving you wrong imprecision, I was just confused, but I am not confused anymore",

" So you never loved me then",

"I am sorry Ray, but you deserve someone who loves you for you, and I am not that person",

He nods still looking dejected.

" Goodbye Ray", I walk out of his room.

I rush out of Ray's house straight to Cole's house, to confess my love for him. To tell him how much I love him. I knock on the door and as soon the door opens and I see Cole I say, "I love you",

"What?", Cole looks at me startled.

" I love you Cole", I tell him with a big smile on my face.

"Is this some kind of joke?",

" No! I really do love you",

"Luna today I saw you and Ray talking to each other, and I heard your conversation about getting back together",

"Yeah, we had decided to get back together, but tonight while kissing him I realized I don't love him, and that I love you",

" Seriously?", He chuckles.

"Yes",

" Luna I don't want to be your backup", this was not the kind of answer I expected of my I love you.

"What are you saying?",

"That you treat me like your backup plane, just because you have realized that you don't love Ray, you think you love me", What the hell is he saying?.

" No, it's not true",

"No Luna it's true, I am your back up, and I don't want to be your backup anymore",

" Cole what are saying?, I love you, I love you so much", tears start to roll down from my eyes.

Keeping a straight emotional less face he says, "You should go now",

" but Cole...", without giving me chance to complete my sentence he slams the door on my face.
