Rowena watched heartbroken as Salazar left. Her pale hands rubbed her stomach. Sitting on her bed, she thought back to the times when the two would secretly meet.
In a way, what he proposed made sense. Muggle-borns could be considered dangerous. After all, Witch hunts were still going on. Muggle-borns could easily betray them by telling their parents or guardians or just any other Muggle really.
Rowena knew she was with a child. Their child. The child they made that night. But she couldn't bring herself to tell him. She had known for a month now. But she kept quiet. She didn't know how he would react. Relationships between co-workers was looked down upon anyway.
Rowena finally told Godric and Helga. They both felt extremely guilty. Godric more so than Helga. It was partly his fault. After all, he should have given Salazar's ideas a bit more thought. Rowena started to change. She would no longer smile as much as she used to or enjoy reading and learning.
Eight months later, little Helena Ravenclaw was born. Rowena was helped by her two friends in raising Helena. And the young child was told the truth about her father and grew to accept it.
However, when Helena was two years old, Salazar returned. He said he had heard from another young wizard about Rowena having a child and it took him less than thirty minutes to figure out he was the father and to pack his things and apparate back to Hogwarts.
The three founders welcomed him with open arms and Rowena was slowly returning back to her old self. Helena was more than happy to have her father back. Hogwarts was back to normal again.
Two years later, Denise Slytherin, the other daughter of Rowena and Salazar, was born. Despite having a four year age gap, Helena and Denise were close. No one other than the founders and their families knew Rowena was Denise's mother.
There was a time, however, when the sisters distanced themselves. While Denise was completely fine with the fact that her parents would always be smarter than her, Helena wasn't. She wanted to become the most intelligent woman to ever live. She wanted to surpass her parents.
Helena ran away after taking her Rowena's diadem. Shortly after, Salazar fell ill. The healers suspected he would pass away soon. Rowena and Denise stayed by his side through it all. Salazar, they found out, was poisoned by his sister, who had been visiting the past week. It was a slow death that no one could cure. And since Helena ran with the diadem, Rowena couldn't find a way to cure him.
Because of his illness, Salazar couldn't continue teaching. And rumours started that he had left for good. That he left as he didn't want muggle-borns infecting Hogwarts. The founders wanted to clear it all up, but Salazar wouldn't let them. He never did care what others thought of him.
A year later, Denise married Edgar Gaunt and had a son with him. But she was murdered by her husband and mother-in-law a few months after. The news broke Rowena and she too fell ill. Her state only got worse after Salazar died. She sent the Baron, Helena's lover, to get her daughter back.
He did find her, but couldn't bring her back and killed her in blind rage. He then killed himself out of guilt. But what he didn't know, however, was that Rowena passed two weeks after Salazar, a few days after the Baron left.
And thus, the Slytherin family left the world around the same time. And now, thousand years later, we know the true story.
