Eavesdropping

Elena was in Diagon Alley, shopping for fifth year. She had come with her mother, who knew a thing or two more than her muggle father about wizard magic.

"We've bought everything from Flourish n' Botts...Is there anything else we'll need?" Her mother asked, looking at the booklist in her hands.

"My school robes don't fit very well anymore. Let's go to Madam Malkin's..." Elena told her.

They made their way to the tailoress' shop. The lady took Elena's measurements, and while her mother bargained with her, Elena slipped out of the shop and strolled through the streets.

She eventually arrived at Borgin n' Burkes. Knowing that she would not be welcomed in the shop, she merely walked past it. A little ahead of it was a dark alley from where Elena heard voices.

"Be careful Burke...Last time your kind messed with me, I made him regret bribing the ministry into creating Anti-werewolf legislation." A deep, threatening voice of a man spoke.

Elena froze and strained her hearing to catch more words.

"Oh, ya' think I'm scared of ya', filth? Listen here, I don't care what you have to say, I don't sell to mudbloods. That's it." Said another man, whose voice was rather weak.

"You know Phineas Selwyn?" The other man asked.
Elena's heart thumped harder.

"I damn well do. What about him, uh?"

"I had his younger son bitten by a werewolf. He is probably here, buying for fifth year at Hogwarts...poor kid. I'd warned his father like I'm warning you. Give me the damned pendant, or otherwise suffer the consequences."

There was a silence, and Elena could tell that the man had impacted Burke. They had also made impact on her.
This is who made Elios the way he was. He had Elios bitten. These thoughts whirred inside of her head energetically, and she was wondering what to do with them.

Elena heard their slow footsteps. She quickly scrambled in the opposite direction, and slowed down when they came into view to reduce suspicion.

She kept on walking, trying hard not to look back. If they had noticed her, what would they do? There was no doubt that one of them had; a teenage girl around Borgin n' Burke's was a rare sight.

She kept on walking though. She walked into Madame Malkin's shop again, where she found, unsurprisingly, her mother still in conversation.

"Uh...Mum?" She said, pulling her mother's sleeve.

"Yes?" Her mother asked her distractedly.

"We need to go."

Her mother nodded, and finished on a price. Eventually, Madame Malkin gave in. As they left, a middle-aged man (perhaps in his fifties) with a shabby appearance and white hair walked in.

"Is my order ready?" The man said loudly, and Elena quickly turned her head towards him. He had the same deep, scary voice she had heard a while ago.

The man noticed her, and gave her a small, meaningful smile.
Elena looked back forward. He knew she had heard. He followed her.

She determinedly looked everywhere but at the man. She left with her mother, her head bowed low.

After exiting, she heard the door open again behind them. Was he following them? She turned her head around to look. He had turned in another direction.
