Chapter 12- Part 2

I remain standing, flicking my feet against the floor, kicking up dirt and shreds of grass.

"Told you we had ages," I say to dad.

"Bella, have you placed your shield around all of us?" dad asks mum, ignoring my comment. Mum nods.

That's right, just ignore me. I think, annoyed.

"I can hear your thoughts, Renesmee," dad says, looking at me.

"I know, that is the point," I reply. I am extremely nervous about this meeting, as I know mum will have to leave me unprotected for Aro to get what he wants. In some ways he is exactly like a spoiled child. Either he gets what he wants or everyone else has to suffer the consequences.

I look at Alice and she is talking to Jasper, obviously the Volturi aren't coming very soon as she would have told all of us, to warn us. Alice looks over at me and catches my eye. She gives me a slight smile and I smile back.

At least Jake and the wolves are safe . . .they have no chance of getting hurt . . . but my family and I do, well, I do. I will have to convince mum to keep a shield up to keep our family safe. There is no point in her going up to Aro with me as she cannot shield me anyway. She might as well protect the others, so Jane and the rest of the Volturi cannot use their powers to harm them. I don't know what I'd do if my family got hurt due to, once again, having to face the Volturi all because of me.

I turn to face mum who is talking to dad. I walk up to her.

"Mum," I say, getting her attention. Dad and mum both turn to look at me. "When Aro and the rest of the Volturi get here, he'll want to see into my mind."

"He can, you can send your thoughts to him," mum says.

"He won't believe I am showing him everything. He will want to see into my head, his way," I say.

"No, I cannot have my shield around you for him to do that."

"Exactly, so you have to keep the shield around yourself and the others."

"And expose you!? No, I won't do that."

"We won't risk it," dad adds.

"Aro won't allow me to send my thoughts, I have to let him use his power on me, and you both know it," I say and I know I have hit a nerve with both of them. "Even though you both have been denying it this whole time, which I know you have been, you both know mum has to do this."

"No, Jane, or the others, could harm you."

"And if they try, then send your shield around me. Until then you have to leave me alone, without your protection."

"I know what you are saying, but I ca-"

"Renesmee is right," Jasper says. "Aro will want to do that and we have to allow him, or a fight will outbreak."

"Fine. But as soon as I see them doing anything, I will put my shield on you."

"OK," I answer. I will be OK, even if I am harmed for only a second mum will protect me. As I walk off I bump into Emmett who was listening in to my conversation with Jas, mum and dad.

"Eavesdropping I see."

"Oh well, and what happens if she can't protect you, Nes?"

"You are to make sure she remains protecting the rest of you, grab her if you have to, make sure she doesn't get anywhere near the Volturi."

"I won't let them harm you either, none of them will."

"Promise me you will make sure mum doesn't get anywhere near them."

Emmett sighs but nods eventually. "I promise."
