Chapter 1
Shin stepped out of the elevator on the fifteenth floor of the building that was now the seat of his business. P'Mark, his security detail as assigned for the day, stepped out with him and headed to his own desk.
It had been roughly three years since Shin had taken over and was successful in legalizing the family practices. He held the respect of his business partners that was hard earned from disclosure, honesty, and working together. Those three months after his father's death were challenging: he struggled to prove that he was not a weakling, that he was worthy of his business associates' loyalties, and to not be assassinated by the mafia. To this day, he still has security for when he is in public in the city, stationed at the office, and nearby the house. While on the island with his family, he employees the old security from Boss John there, essentially making sure that there are no mafia dealings in his area and that nobody messes with Neo and Miw.
When he transformed his father's dealings into a business, he started surrounding himself with smart people and good loyal people he could trust. That first year was full of challenges, especially when Miw and Neo decided to buy the café and move hours away. Their decision influenced how he made his business decision to turn to renovating buildings, property and land management, making wise investments in new technologies, and taking a gamble in investing in startups. His business, Executive Investments and Land Management, was worth over ten billion baht.
Was this what he wanted when he felt he wanted to be free to make his own decisions in life?
Shin was respected, successful, and he had his three hearts partnership. Both his partners have joined him at business dinners and charity events. He was not exactly hiding them anymore, but it was not something commonly talked about. He let people think what they wanted to think, and no one had specifically asked, despite his rise to success. His oldest associates from his father's mafia days already knew he was homosexual and those closest associates to him knew the truth about his partnership with both a man and a woman. His relationship status was common knowledge amongst his peers without being common knowledge in the business.
Tar, his secretary, greeted him with a wai and handed him an ice coffee. Tar looked nervous. "Boss, I hear there are more cases now than yesterday."
Shin took a sip of his iced coffee and thought for a moment before speaking. "Amongst people who have traveled from China. There is no need for concern yet."
"These were people who had not travelled. They traced it back to a sporting match as the common factor." Tar stood in the doorway as Shin got his computer out of his satchel and put it on his desk.
"We will just have to wait and see," Shin sat down and turned it on to start his day.
"One of my friends that works for the government has hinted that they are thinking of a lockdown to control cases in the country." Tar looks nervous at the prospect, as if wondering what would happen in that situation.
"If it comes to that, we will handle it. I would meet with the board of directors to come up with a plan." Shin talks with a confidence; he trusts his team.
