Y/N strode through the village with pride, and, as hoped for, the sight of the prized boar hugging their back, drew the attention of a good few locals. "Hey! Nice catch Y/N!" one young man called over.

"Thanks, Allan!" Y/N responded, beaming. Some little children skipped over to awe at the catch, while others squirmed and looked away with disgusted laughter. The villagers spoke heartily amongst themselves, a few steering the conversation to Y/N.

"That Y/Ns got a real knack,"

"That's Mr L/N's kid for ya!"

"Yeah, that guy was one of the best hunters in Mondstadt"

Eventually, the small crowd filtered away and the chatter died down as everyone went back to ambling about, per usual. Except for two young girls. One turned to speak to the other "Hmph, pathetic. My father caught a much bigger one just yesterday, we got a lot of money for it too. Y/N won't get anything for... that" The two giggled to themselves and watched as Y/N draped in their "rags" hiked up the small hill to their house.

"Mum! Come look!" Y/N puffed with fervour, turning to exhibit the boar. Mother gave a quiet but well-pleased gasp, quickly tossing a wet shirt over the washing line.

"That's wonderful honey! Hang on I'll come and help you in a bit," Y/Ns mother responded, quickly throwing the last shirt over the line before jogging over. "wow, this fella's huge," she said between grunts. They set the boar down with a thud, on the butchering table outside the house. Y/Ns mum stood back, eyeing the boar with consideration, "we can give a leg to Brooke... another to Mr, Luke. . ." her spoken thoughts trailed off...

Y/N felt around for their blade so as to begin skinning the animal, but it wasn't in its usual place, "That's odd..." Y/N shook out the contents in their satchel, feeling a tinge of worry begin to build, 'not in there.'  Y/N quickly pulled off their bow and quiver, checking inside that just in case. Still nothing. "Oh no! I must've left the knife in the woods." Y/N groaned.

"You left your father's knife behind? Oh Y/N you better find it! You know how important it was to him" mother stressed. Y/N became slightly agitated at this, agitated at themself, 'how could I forget my dad's knife?! He gave it especially for me before he-'  Y/N stopped their thoughts abruptly, it wasn't the time to dwell on that. They had to retrace their steps, find that knife, and hope a Hilichurl hadn't decided to add it to his collection of shiny objects.

"I'll go back and look for it mum, I promise I'll find it!" Y/N cried, quickly scurrying back to the forest trail.

"Watch out for the hilichurls! I'd rather lose the knife than lose you!" mother warned pointlessly, to a Y/N who was already, nearly out of sight.

A scruffy, grey-haired boy clutched the knife in his hand, closely following his nose in order to find its owner. He jogged quickly and light on his feet. It didn't take him long to reach the outskirts of Springvale. He stopped for a moment to find his bearings. Suddenly, his ears perked up as he picked up on the fast little footsteps racing his way. He quietly braced himself. Y/N shot past the boy in a hurry, not taking even a second to reconsider the stranger; "Excuse me, sorry!" Y/N shrieked, voice fading off into the trees as they ran.

The scruffy boy calmly turned around, tilting his head slightly, he chuckled quietly to himself curiously observing the strange person. He quickly lifted the knife to his nose. Then he pushed his snout in the direction Y/N was running. The same scent... "Ah, wait!" he called, bounding off after Y/N.
