It's the music he hears first.

A soft strumming of a guitar, soothing and gentle. A steady melody that seems to reassure him that everything will be okay. George stops his fast pace through the halls and is drawn to the music. His ears lead him into the castle courtyard and George stops behind a white pillar.

Back to the stone pillar, George hides. His eyes close and he lets his head fall against the pillar. A soft smile plays at his lips as he listens. The music calms him, his worries fade away and all he thinks about is the gentle tune.

A quiet hum starts to accompany the music and George feels his shoulders relax. The person playing the guitar misses a note and the music stops. George's eyes open as he hears someone inhale deeply before trying the same tune again.

George takes a deep breath as well and turns around. Placing his hands carefully against the pillar, he steadies himself. He peeks his head around the alabaster stone and his breath catches.

There, sitting in the plant-filled courtyard, is a young man, around George's age if he has to guess. George feels his weight lean forward and his head leans against the stone again, watching the man play.

His hair is a mussy blond, falling across his forehead. George can see the splatter of freckles against his sun-kissed cheeks and the constellations of freckles continue down his neck and peek out from under his shirt collar. His fingers are impossibly gentle as they hold his guitar, occasionally traveling up to run through his hair.

George's eyes try desperately to make out more of the man's features from the distance, but he's too far to make anything else out. The man seems to compel George to come closer with just his posture: relaxed and at ease in his surroundings.

George can't help but wonder who he is.

"Your Highness?!" A shrill voice calls out, "Prince George! You're late for your meeting with your father!"

George whips his head behind the pillar, his heart picking up when the music stops. He swallows and internally curses the servant that called for him. With a long look back, George leaves.

It's two days before George sees him again. This time the stranger is sitting on a bench, leaning against the castle walls. His guitar is leaned against the same wall, currently not in use.
