The Gentleman In The Dark

I lay in my bed, breathing heavily, I've grown old and become sickly.

There wasn't a single sound, the night was quiet and calm. Then there was a sudden coldness that caused me alarm

My windows were closed so it couldn't have been a breeze. Then I noticed that a man stood in front of me

He was tall, slender, and wore all black. He had no face, and I didn't see a mask

I was scared of him at first glance, then he reached his hand out to me as if asking for a dance.

He must be a ghost, I thought at first. Then I felt my soul burst

The man in black had taken my hand and pulled me out of what attached me to land.

I look back and see my body sleeping peacefully. However it was still, my lungs no longer moving

I looked back at the man in black who stood by the door, he opened it and led me down the first floor

I figured out who the man was and why he was here. So, I went to the living room to reflect on what I did over the years.

I looked around at the tables, desks and walls, around there were pictures of my family and one last time I admired them all.

I had no regrets with the way I lived and satisfied by what I received, I turned back to the man ready to leave

Most people fear him for his role, as if he was a loan shark. However, in my opinion he was very kind. He was like a gentleman, a gentleman in the dark
