It all started out when his wife had caught a common cold.
The first few days of her illness, Julie had nothing but a mild headache and random coughs. She avoided taking any antibiotics or medicine that might produce other symptoms. It seemed to her that any medicine might only make her sicker. She was not a fan of Western medicine, but who really is?
On the third day of her cold, she started getting a fever. Will contacted their family doctor, regardless of Julie's complaints. She insisted that she was fine. The doctor diagnosed her with 'viral rhinitis', a common cold. The doctor gave her some cough drops which she refused to take. She would prefer to go the natural method and take a teaspoon of honey everyday. Besides, it was just a common cold.
As he saw his wife fall sick, William realized that he was not as courageous as he thought himself to be. At first, he was not worried about her condition. Colds go by faster than they came. Yet, as he watched his wife fall sicker and sicker he truly began to worry. He wanted to consult another doctor. Julie laughed it off and toughed it out. She was fine, she said.
That was until the seventh day of her cold. On the seventh day, Julie no longer felt any cold symptoms. She got out of bed that day with the hopes of baking her loyal and caring husband his favourite homemade dish as a thank you for taking care of her during her time of need. She had never had enough energy as that day, and Will could swear that she was never as beautiful as she was that day.
William sacrificed his time for her, but on the eighth day he felt it was safe to head back onto work.
On the tenth day after a long day at his office, William headed home to find his nurturing wife resting in her bed. He did not bother to wake her, but she never did. The illness had consumed her energy and Will was left completely alone.
That was only the start of it all.
