Colton POV
That was the most random phone call.
I ended the call completely baffled but confident I would see Dakota again soon.
It was a waiting game now. All I had to do was show up and play my part. How I would be able to be in the same building, knowing she would completely alone, afraid and possibly hurt but not go to her. I just don't know. But I had to. For her own safety I had to play this out as planned.
By the time I arrived the truck was reversing in. I was under strict instructions to arrive no earlier than 5pm. All I wanted to do was ask if Dakota was ok, where was she, could I see her, could I take her away from here, do you mind if I shoot you in the face... but no. I had to keep my composure.
Mike stood silently. Arms folded across his chest beaming like he was the king of the world. Absolute cockhead.
Once the truck had come to a stop it was game time.
I love you Dakota. Come hell or high water, you are getting out of here alive.
??? POV
"Dad" I called from inside the truck as I picked up a crate with the pallet jack and pulled it down the the trucks ramp.
"What do you want" dad asked clearly annoyed as he walked over.
"There's something not right with this shipment go have a look" I nodded towards the inside of the truck.
Dad looked at me like I'd grown a third head.
"What do you mean?"
"Go have a fucking look god what is your problem"
"You and your constant bullshit"
"The fuck did I ever do to you dad!?" I genuinely wanted to know.
"He's not even you're biological dad" a familiar but uninvited voice intruded
"Mike shut the fuck up" dad bellowed towards the voice behind me
"The fuck does that mean?" I asked turning to glare at the asshole I hoped to kill today.
"Tell him dad, he seems to like dropping truths on people and ratting out family so why shouldn't he be on the receiving end" Mike had come out of the office holding a metal brief case. Obviously what he intends paying the driver with.
I turned back to dad who smacked his forehead with his palm, shaking his head.
" I don't have time for this, can't believe I'm leaving all I have built to you two idiots" dad mumbled as he pulled himself into the truck.
I shifted my glance to Colton, this is it.
"Mum cheated on dad and you were the result. Once she had you she wanted 'a better life' and tried to leave with us both. So he killed the lying bitch. Explains were you get your betrayal from don't it" mike explained using air quotes to mimic the mother the both of us were too young to really remember.
At that moment I had no more desire to talk. Vapours were escaping from the truck anyway, my window was closing.
I took the zippo from my pocket, lit it and threw it into the back of the truck.
As I watch the vapours burst into a massive ball of flames I had forgotten about the pallet I removed from the back of the truck for further ignition, I forgot to open the several gas canisters surrounding the area.
Mike lunched for me but was intercepted by Colton leaving me free to carry out the remainder of the plan.
Once I had opened all the canisters the clock was ticking, it was time to find Dakota and get her out of here. The driver of the truck had split. He won't get far.
As I ran from the dock into the warehouse I could hear the furry in Mike's voice at the betrayal of not only Colton, but his brother too. I ran as fast as I could knowing I had limited time to get Dakota out safely and live long enough to give her a message from Colton. He knew he wouldn't survive this.
"Get her out. Get her to her dad. Tell her I never meant to lie to her. I was sent to protect her. I wasn't supposed to fall for her, just protect her.
Tell her I'm sorry for failing to protect her but that is exactly what I am doing now.
Tell her to live her best life and that I died a happy and content man having the honour of knowing her"
He told me just before we ended the phone call. He was surprised to hear from me and, totally understandable, it took a a bit of convincing that I wanted to put an end to this family and their trail of devastation.
As I thought about all this I turned a corner to see a guy half way down the corridor... I squinted trying to get a better look...
Is that..... Kyle?? Fuck I hadn't seen that guy for years, what he doing here?
As I finished that thought I heard an almighty explosion then several more smaller, it's done. Good riddance brother. Goodbye Colton, I'm sorry.
I ran towards Kyle, as I did I saw Dakota looking weak and unstable, I sprinted forward chasing him as he carried Dakota over his shoulder.
He disappeared into a room.... I'm almost there Dakota hang on.
Just as I reached the room he shut amd locked the door.
Throwing the key behind his head beckoning me with his fingers to go through him to get them.
I lunged forward but he grabbed me by my shoulders, we pushed against each other trying to over power one another. I took a step to the right and let him topple forward losing his balance. I kicked him in the back forcing him to fall all the way forward. Jumping onto his back I grabbed his head smashing it into the floor as hard as I could.
He lay unmoving. Blood began to seep out from under his face.
Confident he wasn't getting up again I grabbed the keys and unlocked the door opening it and searching frantically for Dakota.
"Trey?" I heard a very weak Dakota exclaim in confusion
