Chapter 1

Each day I awaken in hope this day will not be as the one past

And just as before I am to be disappointed and saddened

Then somehow out of nowhere I see a shine of hope

This thin ray of hope is all I have to awaken me now

Yet even though I hold no joy, happiness or love in my heart

The thin ray of sunshine brings me to my knees in tears

Because no matter what there is always something that will remind you

Just how beautiful this world can be.

Travis awoke in a dose, as he looked around he noticed nothing around him had any familiarity. Everything around him was cold and dark; as he adjusted to the light to the lack of light he looked around and saw that he was surrounded by other teenagers. As he looked at them he thought to himself how much did I have to drink last night and what happened to my friends. He tiptoed around the passed out bodies to look for them room to room he went but they were nowhere to be found. Some of the other people were beginning to stir as he saw the mess and damage to the house and knew no-one there he thought it best to scram.

He walked along the street trying to find where he was and more importantly how to get home when he saw someone he recognized. Tara looking as sexy and untouchable as always, wearing a mini skirt and a small tee shirt through which her bra was easily visible. He always wondered if she knew she drove him wild as well as most of the other boys at school, she probably did which is why out of school she always wore the smallest tightest fitting clothes she enjoyed the attention. He realized of course he must look like hell he had not showered and had been up all night drinking, he hoped she wouldn’t smell the alcohol on him and tell her father who most unfortunately was the principle of the school.

He was trying to think of something cool or smooth to say but when his mouth opened all that came out was “where in gods name am I” a particularly stupid thing to say as they both went to a Christian school. She stayed cool and collected and batted her eyes as she said “you’re on …. Rd in …. Why are you lost?” “Kind of and I have no idea how to get home” he replied feeling a little calmer now. “Well how did you get here?” “I have absolutely no idea” she did a little girly giggle and pointed down the road and said if you head up that way you’ll end up at the shopping center, see you on Monday Travis” “yeah see you” cant wait, he thought in his head but couldn’t decide if that was sarcasm of the truth that thought worried him for a moment. As he walked away he put in his head phones and began to drift into the music this often happened to him it was like his own world in there before he knew what was going on he was at the shops.

When he found himself there he debated who to call to come and pick him up as he was out of cash it most likely was spent on booze. He knew if he called his sister she’d hold it over his head for weeks before she told his parents but he also knew if he called mum or dad he’d get the usual treatment “we never had this trouble with your sister” and “why can’t you be more like Mark.” He diced to call his mum and face her because he’d have to deal with her lecture at some point so he may as well get it over with. Mark was his best friend until 8th grade the same year Tara came to school, Mark became Mr. perfect in all the parents and teachers eyes. All the students however were sick to death of being compared with that robot especially Travis.

Travis dialed the number “hey mum can you come pick me up at … shopping center” his mum replied “where have you been I’ve been so worried and I’ve been calling round looking for you all night and day I’m coming for you right now.” He hung up the phone and decided to look around even though he has no money but there was nothing to do and he knew that his mum would be at least half an hour.
