By the time we arrived at the private estate, the sky was beginning to become lighter. Dawn was finally approaching.

Which was also ironic considering how I had been beginning to fall asleep in Akaza's arms. It looks as though my sleep had been pretty much flipped around the last week or so. Which didn't seem to bother me. I was used to working in the dead of night anyway.

I had no clue why or what exactly it was, but the steady rhythm of Akaza's heart, along with the way he moved through the forest... it almost acted as a lullaby in itself, allowing me to find myself drifting off into a dazed sleep.

My eyes stayed closed for the last half hour of our journey, but my mind still felt awake, my instincts having me listening for any threat. It was like I stayed in the in-between of consciousness and unconsciousness. A technique I learned long ago from my training.

I always had to be aware of the possibility of a threat, even while I was asleep. And so it became an instinct for me—practically second nature.

Yet something told me, that with Akaza, there wouldn't be any threat. Not one stronger than him, that is.

So I allowed myself, even if it was just for a moment, to rest. But unlike our trip here, that rest didn't last very long at all.

It felt like I had just fallen asleep when Akaza came to a halt, the lack of movement from him waking both my mind and body up.

He didn't put me down just yet, thankfully, considering how I was still struggling to open my eyes properly.

I groggily squirmed while he carried me inside, and it honestly took everything in me to keep myself awake and aware of where we were and what could happen.

But the steady beat of the demons heart still pounded against my ears, threatening to pull me under again.

"You're awake," he said, more like an observation than a question. Yet his voice did stray to the quieter side, so at least he was considerate enough to not be super loud when I was asleep merely a few minutes ago.

He made it to the door, shifting my weight so he could use one hand to slide it open and slip inside with the two of us.

He peered back outside once, a slight frown on his face as he looked around, keeping a close eye on the sky. He'd been oddly doing so the whole trip as well.
