I sat on m bed scrolling through my parent's Facebook page, looking at my parent's and I's face as I scroll down. I stopped at one, it was my 5th birthday. A birthday cake was lit with candles I looked so happy my parents hugged me from behind. I looked sadly at the picture and then put my phone down on the table and walked downstairs. My foster dad, Jim, walked in. He had a suit on that was black with a tie. Amber my foster mom greeted him at the front door with a kiss.
"How was work, Sweetie?" Amber asked while helping him with his coat.
"Okay," he answered. He worked at an office signing papers, going through papers, figuring things out for his business.
"Hey Harper, could you get the mail from the end of the street before dinner?" Amber asked.
"Sure," I put m shoes on and slumped outside with the mail key. The coldness stung my face as I started walking down the steps to the mail. I was kind of glad to get outside I wasn't very active this week. School is starting school soon going to 11th grade almost free. I walked down the sidewalk lost in thought about my parents.
I got to the mailbox it was big and white with a bunch of addresses. Then a silver Sienna pulled up, a girl about my age or a little bit older hopped out. She had long blond hair and blue eyes and pale skin, she was beautiful! she looked up at me, realizing I was staring I looked down fumbled with the key and opened up the lock. I sneaked a peek at her and she was slowly taking out her mail.
"Hey," she said abruptly.
"Um...hey," I stammered.
"My name is Amaya," she said, "you must be the new kid, I am good friends with Jim and Amber."
I nodded. "I am Harper." I got all my mail and talked to her for a while turns out she lives across from my house, and is going to the same school, and is 17. As I walked back home I was happier than I ever was because she gave me her number since I left my phone at home she wrote it on my arm and I am going to text her when I get home. As soon as I got home Amber yelled from the kitchen to come for dinner I quickly dropped the mail on a near table and ran upstairs. I put the number in and heard her yell again. I ran downstairs and went into the kitchen.
"Where is the mail?" Jim asked stroking his mustache.
"Sorry, it's the table by the front door."
"Well go grab it!"
I ran out again and grabbed the mail and plopped it on his plate. As Amber scooped up some food for me I heard Jim whispering, "junk, junk, junk." After dinner, I did my chores and ran upstairs to my room closed the door, and sat on my bed. I labeled the name 'Amaya' and then clicked on it. I had no idea what to say to her. I slowly wrote, 'hey, what's up rn?' I sent it.
I was kind of freaking out. I don't know why... just a regular chat with a friend, I told myself. except I don't have any friends so that is a problem. The green light went on and she was active the 3 dots on my screen went up and down like a roller coaster, my heart was beating. I didn't want to look, so I looked out my window and across the road, I saw Amaya sitting on her bed! she was smiling at her phone, was she texting me? my phone dinged. I looked down, she had written back,
'Just finished dinner and just sitting on my bed, u?'
'Same' I wrote back.
