Chapter Eleven: Human

Jacob came back into the house.

"Bella, tell them the names you've picked." I smiled brightly.

"Well, if it's a boy, EJ for Edward Jacob. If it's a girl, Renesmee, after my mom and Esme." She blushed. Then Rosalie handed her another cup of blood. I remember, I watched in slow motion as the cup dropped and Bella bent to pick it up. Her back broke. She fell to her knees and one knee cracked. I grabbed her arm, yelling for Paul. Rose was on the other side. Then I realized I was crying. She was going into labor!

Edward called Carlisle. The placenta had detached and the baby would die unless taken out of her body immediately. We rushed her into the spare bedroom turned examination room and Rose was handed a scalpel to perform an emergency C-section. I could smell the blood and I saw Rose's eyes. Jake and I pulled her outside the room and left Alice in charge of her.

"She can't be changed until the baby comes out!" I said breathlessly. Her bones kept breaking as the baby destroyed her from the inside. She was screaming. I stared in horror as Edward used his teeth to finish the incision and extracted the baby. I stared but here was Renesmee. Oh, she was beautiful... I smiled and held Bella's hand.

"Renesmee." We said in unison. Edward placed Renesmee on Bella's chest and her chest was crushed by the weight. Her eyes were glassy and glazed over suddenly. This is it. She's dead. I shook her arm, but she was unresponsive. I grabbed the baby and stared into Edward's eyes. I ran from the room and Rosalie and I hurriedly washed Renesmee and fed her. I could hear my brother and Edward trying to revive Bella.

Paul, Seth, Leah, Embry, and Quil were outside, guarding. Paul because he didn't want the other pack to see me holding Renesmee and attack. Jacob came out of the room then. I handed Renesmee to Rose and told her to go to the living room. I ran outside after my brother. He fell to to his knees and began to cry and yell.

"Oh, no. God, no." I collapsed on the steps, my face in my hands. Seth stood there, silent. Paul and Leah howled.

"She's dead." Seth said quietly, his eyes dropping to the ground.

Edward bit her several times, trying to revive her. He thought with enough venom, he could save her... Jacob wanted to kill Renesmee. I knew it. He quietly walked into the house, I followed him. Rose sat in a chair, burping Renesmee. And as I prepared to pounce on my brother and protect the small child, he stopped and dropped to his knees.

He and Renesmee stared at each other. I had seen that look on Paul's face... He had imprinted on her. And she would be safe from Sam and his pack. Sam and the pack arrived outside. I walked out and stood next to Paul, ready to phase. Sam rushed to strike Edward when Esme, Emmett, and Carlisle arrived from hunting.

Leah rushed to save Alice and Seth followed her. The numbers were even, but Sam's pack were fighting to kill. We were just trying to keep them away. It ended when Jacob came out.

"If you kill her, you kill me!" He said to Sam. He phased, advancing and snarling. And the wolves backed away, even Sam.

"He's imprinted on her. The pack can't harm her. It's their most absolute law." Edward said quietly to us. The wolves backed off and left.

In the next few days, Rose, Alice, and I cleaned and dressed Bella's body. Carlisle pointed out that her heart was still beating, but she was immobile from all the morphine. All we could do was wait... I sat there every day with Edward. The bite marks disappeared from her flesh. Her cheeks and limbs filled out. Then her heart beat stopped . And everyone in the house heard it. I jostled Edward's arm anxiously.

"Edward." I whispered. We got up and stood over her. Her eyes opened to reveal a crimson red. She was a newborn vampire...
