Author's POV

When former Sect-leader Jiang woke up hand in hand with his wife he did not expect to be in a torn version of what used to be his home, for the first time in his life he felt uncontrollable rage as he now stood beside his wife to watch Lotus Pier burned to ashes with the Wens in it.

His first thought his children and it seems his wife thought the same thing, though they had never been close when alive they still loved each other and it seemed that whatever needed to be said between them had already been said as the two made their way to where they hoped their children would be, still hand in hand.

They found them, injured and broken, A-Cheng was being held by a distraught and injured A-Ying as he was on his knees begging a Wen to do something, they then found out that A-Cheng had gotten captured by the Wens and gotten his core melted, A-Ying had rescued him.

Both cursed the Wens again as they watched A-Ying working tirelessly to figure out a way to bring his core back but of course there was none...until he came across a page that read 'Golden Core Transfer Theory' by Wen Qing going into the depths of the possibility of giving one's core to another.

The couple had instantly shouted no but of course, A-Ying heard nothing, even though when she was alive Madam Yu treated Wei Ying harshly she still cared about the boy but it was all hidden in her insecurity as she whipped the boy and told him he was worthless. They heard him mumbling to himself "I have no choice, it's all my fault anyway it always is, without Uncle Jiang, I would've never even had a core, I own it to them. I promised Madam Yu I would protect Jiang Cheng and Shijie and even if she didn't I still would. Jiang Cheng needs it more than me, he is the Sect-leader now."

The two wished they could talk (yell in the case of a certain violet spider) some sense into him, that he owed no one nothing, Madam Yu wanted nothing more than to take her words back because in front of her sat not the loud and cheerful menace, no it was just a boy who had lost his parents, his home, his everything and was traumatized. Jiang Fengmian wished nothing more than to hug the boy and tell him that it wasn't his fault for anything that had happened, that he wasn't just a shield, he was his child but it was too late.

It was always too late...

They helplessly watched as Wen Qing warned A-Ying of the dangers and consequences after a day of begging but the stubborn boy didn't care, he just wanted to save his brother and so he agreed.

The two days and a night were painful to watch as they heard his cries and screams of pain, he had to be awake through the entire process without anesthetics for the best chance which was only 50%. Let that sink in, he had to be awake watching a part of him being ripped away from and suffer through the pain without any relievers as he was being held down by Wen Ning while Wen Qing did the surgery.

It was a success

The pain ended, but with that so did A-Ying's life.

Jiang Fengmian and his wife watched in horror as a panicked Wen Ning out for his already stressed sister exclaiming "young master Wei is not breathing!" which instantly got Wen Qing out of her super as she gave orders and in hope of saving him mumbling something like "Wei Wuxian you little piece of shit, I did not have you stay awake and survive the surgery only for you to die at the end."

After 5 minutes of tireless working, he finally let out a shuddered and tired breath still unconscious.

Madam Yu remembered how happy and relieved he looked moments after the surgery was completed, his once warm and glowing body now dull, weak, frail, and going colder by each second whereas A-Cheng's body looked once again healthy and full of life.
