Avil was brought again to the ritual chamber. The mancer had gone. He knew why.
The queen ordered a noble brought before them. That was worse. She would perform a ritual using her power and stronger blood. All Avil could do was... Pretty much, nothing.
A while later, a noble was brought before them. The queen mercilessly stabbed him in multiple places. Then she removed tHe heart. The queen repeated what the mancer did. After she had finished the last rune, Avil stepped into the circle. He didn't close his eyes, but the immense pain made him do so. Slowly, he was falling to the magic. He dreamt that he was a spirit, trying to escape earth. But there was one thing that kept him anchored; a radiant white chain. Slowly, the dream dissolved.
Once Avil woke, he was kneeling on the ground, clutching his stomach. He glanced down to see blood: His blood. The Blood Queen's eyes widened.
"No! Impossible! You... You almost... Arrrgghhhh!" The Blood Queen lashed out at the guard. He crumpled into sand. She looked at Avil with murderous eyes.
"You...."
"No. Please don't do it any more."
"Why should I listen to you, mortal? Next time, you will accept. Or else I will reach into your soul!"
The Blood Queen thundered out of the room. Avil followed, but once she reached the royalty sector, he paused, and glanced out the window. He saw Lily. She was scaling the castle walls, climbing with ease. The patrolling soldiers began to notice her. All she did was brush her hair aside and leap into the castle.
"Come with me. My smoke bomb won't last long on those blood Knights. I'll get you out of here."
Avil's heart raced at a thousand miles per second. This was a rescue! When Avil looked down again, he saw thousands of assassins battling the royal guard. The Knights dispatched many assassins, but there were just too many. Lily grabbed Avil's hand and leapt off the tower. As he plummeted, Lily signaled for the assassins to ready a cushion. When they landed on the cushion, Lily immediately leaped to the nearest catapult. She fired.
A giant ball of ruby threw itself into the wooden gate. The wood splintered easily and caught fire. The assassins had dispatched most of the guard by now, and the remaining ran towards the splintered debris. Lily grabbed some hooks and threw them. Each of the hooks lodged in a guards's head, killing them. An assassin ran up to Lily, shouting,
"Milady! The shock bows are ready!"
"Good, launch them fast!"
As the assassin rushed off, a volley of blue rays shot up at the castle. Lasers. One of them swept across the tower, and it collapsed. Another burned off the royal flag off the pole. While the front of the castle crumpled, Avil turned to Lily.
"You don't think the queen is..."
"No. Immortals cannot die by a simple laser attack, even by the Janus clan."
The Janus were the most feared group of assassins in all of the continent Fordrasir. They were only matched by the Thorn of the west, the Simiak of the north, and the Glazio of the south. The Janus were the current ruling clan in the eastern continent, Fordrasir. To think that a Janus leader would admit that they couldn't kill someone... That someone had to have immense power. And that someone was the Blood Queen.
"Avil, I... You should go to Ichth. Tell the Glazio that the Janus requests reinforcements."
"All right. You sure the rest of Ty'sya will be safe?"
"Yes. Now go! I will send Catrina with you. She is a good fighter."
"Alright."
"Good luck. And..."
"Yes?"
"Be safe."
"I will."
An assassin stepped forwards.
"My lady, I will make the journey with master Avil."
Lily nodded, and pounced into the fray, diamond hooks spinning.
