You sat on the couch tapping your heel against the ground in silence. The shock finally hit you, how crazy the situation truly was. The worst part is you couldn't even confide in anyone, or risk making things worse. The last time something felt this wild was in high school. But this time around you were all in real danger. Everyone was still on edge after the search for Zane came up empty. It was a little over an hour before everyone came back, the hope was that since the place was so huge he was in an area that hadn't been searched yet.
"Oh hey Aph!" You greeted stopping at the top of the staircase. She gave you an odd look before answering. "Um yes hello" Aphmau nodded before skittering down the stairs and out of your sight. Genuine suspicion or paranoia from your previous meeting you weren't sure. But what you did know was something was off about Aphmau. Her voice was the same but her body language, and mannerisms were different. "Wait up!" You called, following her path. But she only moved faster. And you found yourself in the kitchen but Aphmau was nowhere to be seen. "Y/n do you want to help me with lunch" Aaron called out from the kitchen.
"I never want anything canned ever again" You complained after opening a can of tomato soup. Aaron chuckled as he heated up the pan "Neither do I, Y/n neither do I". Getting rather tired of snacking on chips, granola bars, and other snacks the smell of real food had your stomach grumbling. But opening all those damn cans was a real pain in the ass even with an old can opener.
"When do you think the internet will be back up?" You asked, staring at the lack of bars on your phone. "I have no clue, I haven't even gotten a chance to check in with mom and dad about this place" He said while putting the top back on the pot and beginning on the sandwiches. You sighed, while also putting together a turkey sandwich.
Aaron hummed while continuing to cook. You glanced at his somewhat peaceful look on his face.
Man cooking really is his escape even in this situation, kinda wish I could find something that would calm me down. Damn those wolves for stealing my backpack.
"Have you noticed something up with Aphmau?" You casually mentioned. Still wondering if you should speak up on your suspicions. "I mean of course Zane is still missing and I know she's really worried about him" Aaron said.
"Yeah I know but I ran into her upstairs and something just seemed different-" You started as the others entered. "Smells good in here," Lucinda said, taking a peak around the food. "We should eat and then get back out there" Garroth said between bites of the sandwich you just finished making.
"Weird stuff has been happening since we came here. I'm sure she's just stressed and will be back to normal soon. Or when we find Zane" Lucinda reassured. You were about to continue but rejected the idea. They didn't know what you did about the place and would just dismiss you instead. "But are you alright? Y/n you've been acting more fidgety than usual to" Garroth pointed out. Oh great now I'm on the chopping block. "It's different I'm fine but there's clearly something up with Aphmau" You said slightly frustrated. They all glanced at each other before Aaron spoke up.
"I think the stress is getting to you–and I don't blame you. I think you should sit this search out, get some rest" Aaron said sympathetically, but you felt patronized. Lucinda and Garroth nodded along. "Guys I feel fine but I'd appreciate it if you guys at least presented to take me seriously here" You said before leaving the room with your plate. "Y/n come on we didn't mean it like that" Lucinda called out as you left the room.
Laying down on the bed in one of the rooms you looked up at the window. This was the same room that you spotted Tatianna around the trees. But this time you stopped hiding your ears and tail "Was I overreacting? I don't think I was but who knows" You muttered to yourself. I wonder when Tatianna will reach out to me again. I could really use some insight into those tunnels. You pulled out the blueprint from the waistband of your pants and began studying it. "Can I come in?" Aphmau asked, knocking on the room door. "Give me a sec!" You said scrambling to hide the blueprint. And get back to a more human form.
Opening the door you let Aphmau into the room, both of you now sitting on the bed. "Heard you weren't feeling well are you okay?" She asked in her usual sweet tone. Taking a good look at her she seemed normal. It was almost as if what happened earlier didn't even happen at all. Maybe It really was all just in my head, Irene. Burying your head in your hands you sighed. "I need to apologize to everyone," You said. She chuckled before continuing "I know you're having a rough time right now, we all are, Zanes still missing and tensions are high". "Yeah" You said before being interrupted.
"APHMAU, Y/N GET DOWN HERE ZANES BACK" Garroth shouted from the top of his lungs. You and Aphmau both stared at each other from shock before booking it out of the room. Practically tripping down the stairs to see Zane in one piece standing there. Aphmau and Garroth engulfed Zane in a hug as the rest of you stared still in shock.
"Baby brother, I'm so glad you're okay!!" Garroth explained. "Um you're not my brother" Zane replied "Wait what–" Garroth started.
