Law's side

Shit-

He barely teleports away from the laser hit.

Still better than shooting at her. I have enough stamina to dodge, and she can't move properly.

But why is he attacking like that?

"Oi, [Y/N]!" he yells, and the woman looks back at him for a moment, her face blank, eyes empty. "Don't use your Haki, or I can't get you out of there!"

I have to use Shambles.

"Let me move you away!" he shouts again, avoiding the next shot.

He senses that I'm the worse threat now.

But before he starts an attack, he freezes down at the sight.

The woman lifts her arm into the air, hits Bartholomew's wrist, then grabs his hand to gain momentum.

She groans in pain and rips herself free, then jumps over the Warlord's head, finishing the move by kicking the back of his knees.

The laser slashes the ground, sending dirt to fly toward the trees like a grey, enormous cloud.

She's strong.

Law shakes his head to return to reality, then appears by her side and catches her arm.

"We have to go," he says and tries to use his Devil Fruit, but she doesn't let her Haki down. "What the hell are you doing?! He's too dangerous to fight now."

"Let me go!" she shouts and pushes the raven-haired man away. Law growls deeply as he lands on the ground again.

Ragged breath, hoarse voice, bent spine. Some of her ribs must be broken or fractured.

And Kuma stands up, lifting his palms in their direction. The air starts pulsating around his skin.

"Are you insane?!" yells Law at her when she starts walking there with shaking legs.

But when he reaches for her again, she looks at the pirate, and the man recoils. His chest aches strangely, seeing the vivid eyes so dim and opaque.

Law wants to move but stops himself, tensing against his muscles that try to reach her subconsciously.

He grits his teeth and turns around, running back to his crew.

I can't do anything if she won't let me.

"Everyone, get back!" he shouts at them as the Warlord finishes preparing his attack.

And the Surgeon of Death trembles when he sees her standing with a raised head.

It's over.

But [Y/N] jumps up and cups the Warlord's face gently for a second, just a moment before he would launch the impact.

His arms fall back, and Law's eyes widen, a wave of shock and amazement rushing through his veins.

Bartholomew Kuma, at least what is left of him, sits back to the ground, guarding the Thousand Sunny.

This can't be true.

She steps back carefully and pushes her forehead to the Warlord's silently so the pirates can't hear her whispering.

Then [Y/N] turns around and walks away. Kuma doesn't even flinch.

What happened?

"C-Captain," whispers Bepo. "She's leaving. Where is she going? Captain!"
