The day of the tournament arrived as the participants gathered near a lake, waiting for instructions.
Yezun took a peek and was shocked. "Gege! The participants are mostly flimsy-looking nobles or shabby-looking beggars. No women at all!" Making his father spit out his tea upon hearing it. "Wei, are you sure your plan would work? I don't want a beggar or Zhu Jiu as my son-in-law," said his father. Shen Wei smirked. "Don't worry, father! I won't marry any of them! You already knew this tournament is only for diversion."
Guo clapped his hand to get everyone's attention as Shen Wei walked up the platform. "Rules are simple. I want everyone to build a bridge across the lake. Whoever gets the red flag on the other side first, win!" Suddenly Zhu Jiu cuts him. "Why waste time build a bridge when we could swim across a lake!" said Zhu Jiu as the other noblemen agreed.
"Of course you could!" Shen Wei pointed behind them. Everyone turned to look, just in time to see a crocodile jumping out of the water like a dolphin, showing its sharp teeth. "Haha! Nah! We're just kidding. Let's build the bridge instead!" They swallowed hard and backed away cowardly.
"You only got until tomorrow sundown to complete this bridge! I will observe everyone from here." Shen Wei banged the drum to let them begin. As he turned, he noticed Yunlan leaning against a tree and smirking at him. "Weird beggar!" Shen Wei stuck his tongue out at Yunlan.
While everyone was busy chopping and collecting woods, Shen Wei dragged Yezun inside. "You're so smart, Gege! You found a way to use these lazy nobles to build the bridge, reducing labour costs. But you got to be careful! Are you sure that Zhu Jiu's Godfather is not at his Resident?" As both changed their outfits. "Yes! The spy already told me!" Shen Wei quickly escaped through the back door while Yezun disguised as Shen Wei and came back out.
The disguise couldn't fool Yunlan as he secretly followed after Shen Wei.
Shen Wei peeked from the high wall of the Military Commander's Resident, seeing no one and quickly jumped in. He snuck into the library and searched around. "Where did the old fox hide it?" He accidentally bumped into a lampstand, opening up a secret drawer. He smirked to find the hidden letters and snuck out.
"Who's there?" The guards yelled and started attacking by shooting arrows at Shen Wei. He tried to climb up the high wall, but an arrow struck him on the shoulder as he was about to fall. Luckily Yunlan caught him on time and fled into the woods. "Chase them!" shouted the guards.
"It's dead-end! We got to jump down the water!" But Shen Wei stopped him. "I can't get these letters wet!" Yunlan quickly hid the letters in his magic pouch. He lifted Shen Wei and jumped down.
Moments later, Shen Wei opened his eyes with a slight headache, noticing he was only covered with a thin cloth and panicked. "What did you do to me?" He yelled at Yunlan, who was by the campfire, drying the clothes.
Yunlan laughed and came closer. "Here! I was drying your clothes. Besides, your wound needed bandaging." He passed Shen Wei his clothes. Shen Wei was surprised and started to blush upon seeing Yunlan's handsome face close up as his heart started pounding. "Could you turn around!" Shen Wei became shy to stare straight into Yunlan's eyes and quickly put on his clothes.
"What's your name?" Shen Wei joined Yunlan beside the campfire. Yunlan gave a soft smile. "Zhao Yunlan and here!" Yunlan gave Shen Wei back the letters. "Tell me, what were you doing there?" Yunlan questioned. Shen Wei thought for a while whether if he could trust the handsome beggar. Yunlan laughed again at Shen Wei's dilemma. "I saved you twice! You still don't trust me?" Shen Wei opened his eyes wide, looking directly at Yunlan and grabbed his hand. "You're my saviour who saved me that day?" And Yunlan nodded. "Now, could you tell me?"
"I was sent on a mission by the King. We suspect the Military Commander to be a traitor, selling information to other nations. These letters could prove his treason."
Yunlan sighed. "Xiao Wei, could you stop being so reckless!." As he caressed his face tenderly. "No matter what realm you're in, you make me worried!" Yunlan thought inwardly while looking into Shen Wei's tender eyes that he possesses every realm.
"Yun...Yunlan, could you help me? I need to give these to the King. The guards probably already notify the Military Commander. He will try to flee!" Shen Wei requested while fiddling with his fingers nervously.
Yunlan slyly smirked. "I will help you but with a condition!"
Shen Wei quickly looked up at Yunlan. "What..what condition?" and shyly shifted his gaze back down to his fingers again.
Yunlan came in closer and lifted his chin. "After giving the King these letters. You must be willing to come with me!" and leaned down to capture Shen Wei's soft lips, who was surprised at first but quickly responded with equal passion.

That night they rushed to the palace and handed the letters to the King, who was furious to see what was written and commanded the Imperial guards to lead a troop to capture the Military Commander for treason.
Shen Wei came out of the courtroom to meet Yunlan, who was waiting outside. "Ah, Lan! Help me capture the traitor, please!" Shen Wei batted his beautiful eyes. Yunlan slapped his forehead. He should've known that Shen Wei would do this based on his personality. "Could I refuse my beauty?" Yunlan teased. Shen Wei then observed around. Seeing no one, he kissed Yunlan and quickly pulled him up on a horse as they galloped away.
"Thanks for helping me capture the traitor!" As they walked hand in hand, almost reaching the town's gate. Yunlan stopped his movement. "Xiao Wei! Didn't you agree to leave with me after this!" Yunlan was about to take out the soul recovering pill for Shen Wei to drink.
"Ah, Lan! You need to meet my family first! After we get married, I will leave with you!" As Shen Wei happily dragged Yunlan into town. "Am I getting fooled by Xiao Wei again?" Yunlan thought inwardly.
Walking through the busy street as every woman kept staring at Yunlan's face while giggling and winking. Shen Wei frowned upon seeing that. "I don't like how you look!" He messed Yunlan's hair and smeared some dirt on his face. "There, much better, now no one would look at you!" As he laughed beautifully at Yunlan. Who was actually on the verge of pulling Shen Wei in for another kiss.
Shen Wei dragged Yunlan inside the house to meet his father, surprising Yezun and Guo, who could not believe their eyes, seeing Shen Wei with a dirty beggar.
"Father!" Shen Wei shouted. "Wei, you're back safe!" His father rushed out of his room, seeing his son holding a beggar's hand as he arched his brow. "Father and Didi! Meet Ah Lan, my husband-to-be!" Shen Wei introduced. "HUSBAND!" They shockingly yelled together.
"Wei, I need to speak with you!" His father rubbed his nape while walking into a room first.
"Guo, please prepare a hot bath for him in my room." Shen Wei instructed Guo. "Wait for me, Ah Lan!" Shen Wei whispered and quickly followed his father into the room with Yezun.
