Ah, Christmas in Duckburg. One of the only times where everyone is actually happy. Well, everyone besides Scrooge McDuck, but this was normal. Donald was sitting in the living room in the manor, watching the fireplace glow while waiting for Huey, Dewey, and Louie to come inside from their epic snowball fight that was currently commencing out in front of the manor. The snow fell, covering the whole city in white. As he stared at the fireplace, the duck couldn't help but think back to when he'd spend Christmas with José and Panchito. He missed them. The last time he had spent time with them was back during the flower festival when they all almost got eaten. Luckily it was Panchito's quick thinking/excellent singing voice with a combination between José's umbrella and Donald's AWFUL singing voice that saved the family.
Although it still bothered Donald. He wondered if they had forgotten about him. If they forgot about their adventures, or if Panchito forgot about the promise he made to come to the states for Christmas this year...or, the worst thought the duck could think of, if HE forgot about starting a relationship with Donald. HE being José. He was about to go into a whole spiral of "if they forgot" questions before hearing a knock at the door, snapping him out of his thoughts. Frustrated, the duck got up and walked. "Of all the nerve, I oughta-" he mumbled before opening the door. There was a small present addressed to him. He tilted his head before picking it up, shaking it a bit. Taking it inside, the duck naturally opened it right away, despite it only being the night before Christmas Eve. As if his questions were heard from the heavens, two very familiar birds popped out of the box, one belting out a grita. "AIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEE AIEE YII YII!!" He shouted happily, pulling Donald into a hug. "I told you we'd come, amigo!! Did you think we'd break our promise??" He said. Donald smiled. "Panchito!! Hi!" He said as he softened. The other bird simply lit a cigar and stared at Donald with a small blush across his beak and a wistful look in his eyes. "Olá, meu amigo. I, ah...know it is a bit early, but Feliz Natal," he said. Donald teared up a bit as he hugged José tightly. Not ever wanting to let him go. "José, y-you came!" The duck said, getting choked up.
José puffed out some smoke before tapping his cigar with his pinky, umbrella hanging from his arm. "What, you didn't think me and Panchito wouldn't come after we made a promise, amigo? A promise is a promise, and neither I nor Pancho is too keen on breaking one." The parrot spoke softly and lovingly, smiling. Donald felt lighter as José held his hand. The triplets walked in through the door, wet from the snow. As soon as they saw the two Latin American birds, they dashed over to them, shouting their names. José and Panchito both hugged the boys, laughing before José clapped his hands. "Ah, Donal', allow me to make the boys some coco quente, so they can warm up before we start decorating!" The parrot said before entering the kitchen. Seeing as Donald was about to say Scrooge had no decorations, Panchito pulled out three huge boxes from the little box they jumped out of. "Way ahead of you, mi amigo! I knew el pato viejo didn't like owning decorations, so I brought some! Eres bienvenido, mi amigo! The rooster said with a smile. Soon, Scrooge came out to see the birds there. "Aye, wit' jus' my luck, of course, ye three laddies woul' be here." He said, although Panchito could tell by the look in his that he was joking and kinda happy to see them. He smiled and pulled him into a hug. "Scroogie, tu viejo avaro! Feliz Navidad!" He said. Scrooge let out a quiet "Bah, humbug" before breaking away from the hug. "I's nice of ye lads to visit us for Chris'mas, Donald's been gettin' a wee bit worried ye woul' not come, haha." He chuckled. Donald shot Scrooge a look, but Panchito simply laughed. "I thought he was." He said with a proud smile.
José came back with a tray full of hot cocoa, humming a Christmas tune. As he set the tray on the table, he gave some to Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and then to Donald and Panchito, then to Scrooge, but he refused. So José decided to drink it. As they drank, they all talked and laughed. Donald and José stood right by each other, smiling and laughing. He hasn't done that in a while. As they finished, Panchito clapped his hands and gave Donald and José a box of decorations, while he took one himself. He said for them to split up, but José and Donald went off together, boxes in hand. Huey took the opportunity to find a Christmas tree while Dewey helped Panchito. Louie hung around Scrooge. He and his brothers knew about Donald's interest in José, but it was something to get used to--possibly having another parental figure to look up to was a scary thought, especially when they had gone without one for the longest time. The decorating continued and everyone was enjoying it. Even Scrooge, though he didn't show it to anyone.
Late that night, when everyone had fallen asleep except José and Donald, Donald couldn't sleep. The heater in his houseboat stopped working, so the poor duck was shivering. As he got out, he walked to the manor doors, only to be startled by José coming out of the door. "Oh! Olá again, Donal'- Oh! Meu amor! You're shivering? Are you alright?" He asked, genuine concern taking over him. Donald couldn't get out a response, his teeth were chattering too much. José seemed to notice this and took him by his frigid hand. He pulled him inside and to the fireplace, sitting him down in front of it before sitting next to him. Donald leaned up against him. José was quite warm, somehow. And Donald loved that so much. José chuckled. "Ah, Donal', I thought you were going to be um pato congelado!" He said before correcting himself. "A frozen duck. Desculpa, meu amigo! I forgot you're Portuguese was a bit- uh.." He struggled to look for a word. Donald piped up. "...Bad?" The duck asked. José shook his head. "No no no, Donal'! It just needs work, meu amor!" He said. The duck smiled slightly. "Haha...yeah." He said before they both went silent. It wasn't until the clock struck 12:30 am when José and Donald both blurted out "I like you" at the same time, blushing. José let out a small squeak before tilting his head. "...You do?" He asked. Although Donald couldn't answer. He buried his head into José's chest and sobbed. "I'm sorry, I shoulda told ya, José, I shoulda told ya sooner or..or when we were at the festival...o-or.." He rambled, and José took control.
"Donal', you're breathing too quickly, may you please repeat my breathing, meu amor?" He asked as he made sure to breathe slowly and deeply. As Donald matched his lover's breathing, José continued. "You were nervous. I get that, my friend. I was nervous as well. But...you picked a perfect time to tell me. And that's something I appreciate. I'd be more than happy with me and you being part-OOF!" José fell over as Donald hugged him tightly, sniffling. "Me too." He said quietly. He got off of José and they both watched the fire. Donald had fallen asleep on José, who chuckled quietly and whispered "Feliz Natal, Donal'." . He then fell asleep himself, happy thoughts in his brain.
