Waking up for school on Monday morning, the first thing my eye landed on was the blinding sunlight spilling in my curtains that were left open the previous night. Seconds of rubbing my eyes and adjusting to the light, my eyes found the jewellery adorning my beside table. Two rings and an open locket, the clasp that held it closed having been broken.

Number one on the list of things I had to do when I saw my brothers was to give it back to its rightful owner (and hope and pray that I didn't get blamed for breaking it).

At breakfast when the nine of us were seated -Damon and Xander extended their stay at Aiden's and Dari and Luci had already gone to work- the locket made an appearance on the table from being clutched tightly in my hand.

"I found this..." My voice was slightly raised to get everyone's attention, which worked, "on the stairs last night." I was kind of regretting speaking up because everyone's attention on my was making me nervous, "I...uh didn't know who it belonged to so I just kept it? Until now, obviously."

"It's mine." The gold chain laced with Elijah's fingers and he picked it up off the table and inspected the damage.

Everyone else went back to talking about whatever it was they were talking about before I interrupted them.

"I found it broken." I rushed out before he could try to blame me for it breaking.

Elijah spared me a small glance and dismissed it with a small wave, "It's fine, I can just get it fixed."

"Oh." I muttered dumbly.

"Hm."

Believe, I tried hard to restrain myself from asking questions that I didn't have to but curiosity got the better of me. Leaning over to inspect the two pictures inside the locket as Elijah did, I asked, "Who are these people?"

Elijah's eyes snapped to meet mine.

I couldn't maintain eye contact for very long and looked away almost instantly, "I mean, obviously, I know the solo one is me," It was one of the pictures taken from my baby photoshoot a few months after I was born, "and the other is a family photo. But, like, whose family photo?"

"Ours." Elijah answered simply.

At my confusion, he clarified, "Ours while your mom was still pregnant with you."
