Chapter 2:
Lucas sluggishly clumped down the bleachers and squared down next to Kate. She smelled flowery and wore a silver necklace with a small cross on it.
" So I see you have found the pool, can't keep far away from water I see. Now I know it's not what YOUR used to, I mean you and your fancy big city and fancy private school , they don't even compare." Arrogance was seeping through his voice. Kate turned to Lucad, then graver her bag and stood up.
" Let's go."
" Well aren't you just a sourpuss." Kate ignored Lucas and just kept walking. " Well OK we'll go then!" Lucas shouted with anger. Then started walking up the bleachers an muttering under his breath.
Lucas couldn't help but to be an ass to Kate. He thought it was funny when she got mad or even squirmed. Almost as much as a little boy likes to pull a little girls braids while in primary school.
Kate walked out the doors of the community center and into the parking lot, heading towards a white Toyota Corolla

"Fine where do YOU want to go, scince you have no appreciation of MY efforts." Lucas stated with frustration in his voice. After all, he was trying to be nice.
" Home. Back to California. I hate Danville. I hate you. I hate my mother. I want to go home." Kate said almost on the verge of tears.
The car was silent. There was clearly tension in the car. Lucas knew why Kate hated him, he knew why she hated her mom, and he knew why she wanted to go home. The hard cold realization hit him : Lucas couldn't do anything that would console his best friend, he messed up and had to lay in the bed he had made.
"So are you hungry?" Trying to break the silence Lucas wondered out loud . "There's a really great Chinese place a few miles into town, and I know how much you like Chinese." Lucas grinned remembering the summers when they were little. The days when Kate actually wanted to talk to him. Before everything happened.
"I'd rather starve to death rather then go eat with you. Oh and just as an FYI I hate Chinese food."
"Since when?!"
"Since two seconds ago when you mentioned it."
"Seriously! What crawled up you ass and died?"
Kate just glared at him. He knew why she hated him. He knew what crawled up her ass and died. " Just drop me off at Ella's house, or stop the car and I'll walk. Actually yea just stop and I'll walk, it's better then spending time with a duchbag like you." Kate arrogantly exclaimed.
Lucas grumbled under his breath but decided that it would be best to just let her off on the side of the street. He didn't feel like babysitting anyway. Lucas came to a stop half a mile from Ella's, Kate's mothers, house. Maybe a Kate could go blow off some steam while walking.
Kate got out without a word and slammed the door of the Corolla.
