6 years pass.

She walked down the street. New York looked big compared to Chicago, the place she had grown up. She moved to get a degree in fashion design and although it was fun, most people told her she wouldn't get far in it. That she'd fail and end up working 2 part time jobs and living on the street.

She had gotten a scholarship for New York University. Sounds fun right?

She lived in a dorm with a roommate named Ava Costle. Ava was alright. She wouldn't say they where besties or anything like that but she was able to put up with her.

Y/n made her way into the classroom and sat down at a table next to a girl who's name she thought was Nadia? The professor stood in the front of the room watching as young adults started filling the room.

Y/n was in her 3rd year of collage, not starting until she was 20 years old.

She took a pen out of her pocket and tapped it against the table, making the girl beside her glare at her in annoyance.

The professor started talking, telling them to go to page 194 to talk about sewing patterns. Y/n continued tapping her pen, listening to the teacher.

Y/n felt the pen leave her hands as Nadia snatched it and set it on the other side of her so y/n couldn't reach it. Y/n looked over at her seeing the scowl on her face. "Sorry." Y/n whispered before looking back at the professor.

The teacher started talking about a project. "It would help to have someone like a friends or something to use as a model. Take a picture of them and then present that picture to the class along with talking about the sewing patterns you used, and different ideas you had while making it."

The lecture continued for about an hour. They where instructed to go home and sketch out their ideas on a price of paper and of course they needed approval from the professor before starting to work on the project.

After the lecture y/n went back to her dorm, expecting to see her roommate but she wasn't there. "Where did she go now?" Y/n mumbled to herself and rolled her eyes.

She sat down on her bed and took out her phone. She heard the door open and her roommate walked in throwing her book bag on the floor. "Where were you?"

Ava sighed and took a can of beer out of the small fridge they shared. "This dude invited me to study at the library so I went and then I found out he just wanted to sleep with me."

"Did you?"

"No." She said like it was obvious. She popped open the tab on the beer and took a big gulp of it, making a face at the taste. "Eww! It's so light!" Y/n laughed and held her hand out. Ava passed her the beer and she took a sip. She nodded and scrunched up her face.

"I know this really good brewery, it has the best Christmas in July beer. Holy shit." Ava moaned and y/n giggled.

"There's this project I have to do, make a dress of my choice and make a presentation for it." Y/n said changing the topic of the conversation. Ava hummed.

"How's that going?" Y/n took out a piece of paper and showed her. "I did this when I was on the subway on the way home. I don't really like it though. I might make a new one." Ava nodded.

"I'm going out with my friends later if you wanna come." Ava mentioned setting the can of beer on the table between both of their beds. "Maybe. We'll see how much I get done. I wanna at least finish the rough draft tonight." Ava laid down on her bed, sinking into the mattress.

"Who all's going?" Y/n asked opening a drawer on the night stand and taking out a pencil. "Darcy, me, Ellianna, and Sofia."

Y/n nodded after crumpling up her paper and tossing it in a trash bin.
