The Wreck

I feel my heart race and my feet hitting the ground as I risk my life to find out the answers to potentially restore the human race, as I run away from the almost certain death situation that is my life. I think about how ever since the uprising of technology began life hasn’t been the same, humans are no longer the first on the food chain and are on the brink of extinction. All because of one man who gave the robots freethinking.

Looking back I see that I've lost them, crawling into the small clearing in the alleyway that has become my home. I greet the people that have become a comforting sight in this dark and robotic world. “Foods here.” I say as I grab the scraps that I collected today. I hear small footsteps as I put the food into small containers for everyone.

“Did they follow you at all?” I hear a deep raspy voice behind me, “You need to be careful going out, you know what they’ll do if they catch you, Lizzy.” I turn around to find Alex, the only other adult in this refuge, or as we like to call it ‘The Wreck’ it seems to sum up our situation perfectly.

The Wreck consists of Alex, He is 24, the muscle of this place, he was a boxer before everything went to shit. There are The twins, both of them just shy of 18, who are as you’ve guessed are two teenage twins, their names are Elijah and Liam. Elijah has always been smart when it comes to technology, who he got from his father and Liam is more of the sneaky type, always getting into trouble because of his likeness to steal any type of gadget to help his brother, and the youngest of us all is Jade, my younger sister, she is 17, she is good at persuasion and a trickmaster. Then there is me, Lizzy, I'm the oldest out of us all, only by 3 months. I handle all the medical side of things. I was just about finished with my first year as a surgeon when they took over.

I zone back in and answer Alexs Question. “No, Alex, they didn't. I made sure to cover my tracks as I came in,” I breathe out as I hand everyone their food, “and yes I did not get hurt. Did you guys make any progress today?” I walked over to the broken couch, a spring pinching my bottom as I sat down. “Elijah is still working out the tech stuff on the god forsaken thing, what about you?” That reminded me about the notes I found when I went to Richard Woodland's old office.

Richard Woodland is the ruler of the Robots and the person who created this mess. He has the mindset that all human are a waste of space on this planet and that we only have one purpose, Slavery. As I searched his heavily guarded office for anything to help Elijah with his problem, I stumbled across his old Journal. It was full of entries about his journey to “Fame”, as he likes to call it. He is the only human with the freedom to do what he likes, and that's how he prefers it, a perfect world with perfect citizens and no one to tell him what to do. I grab the old book out and pass it to Alex, making sure the three kids are still eating. “I think this will be helpful for Elijah's project.”

“What is it?” Alex questions as he opens the book. “It's Mr. Woodland's old Journal from when he started his ‘little project’.” I say in a hushed tone making sure not to alarm the others with his name. They are all very sensitive to his name considering he is the sole reason that they lost their loved ones and their freedom. “Lizzy,” Alex deadpans while staring me down. I knew this was coming. “I thought we agreed you wouldn't go there after being captured the last time.'' I look down at my robotic arm remembering the events that happened that horrible weekend.

“I know but I just had a feeling that I was going to find something today, and to be fair I did find something pretty useful.” I grabbed the book to see if it had any useful information in it. I opened the book and did a quick scan over to see if anything stood out to me, nothing important caught my eye. “Should we tell them?” I ask, thinking it would be a good idea for Elijah to see if it's useful for anything. “Yeah, I reckon. I can’t see anything that’d be helpful for us.” Alex says, i did not expect him to react that nicely. Alex is very protective over all of us after I got captured, he has only just let us go out alone to get supplys.
