I lay in bed thinking of my new beautiful March Hare. The way her strawberry blonde hair frames her tan skin perfectly. The way her ocean blue eyes look into my soul. The way her cheeks get all red when I call her beautiful or kiss her cheek. Turning over, I pick up Alice in Wonderland from my stand. Hare gave it to me, when we moved in. I cannot believe we have been here for 2 months already. Living with the Queen and Knave was much better then I thought. We get three meals, and Alice is in school now, making friends. She turned 8 a week ago on the 14th. Mine is soon, the 23rd, but I have not informed my new family about it. How could I? They have been nothing but sweet to me. I have kept myself hidden behind walls. Hare is slowly breaking them though. I do not understand how. Maybe its the sound of her voice, how she sounds so dreamy. I start to re-read the book, again.
"Curiouser and Curiouser." I whisper.
"And what do you find curious?" Hare asks me. I jump and throw the book at her.
"Ow!" she gasps.
"Oh god. Dear Hare. I am so terribly sorry. I did not mean to hit you with the book." I say getting up. "Are you okay?" I walk over to her.
"I'm quite alright." she replies.
"Can I ask why you are in my room at this hour?"
"You just did." Hare giggles. "However I am here because I wanted to talk to you."
"You wish to talk to me? At this hour?" I ask confused.
"Mad, I've fallen madly in love with you." Hare says.
"H-hare, please stop telling lies." I say sitting on my bed.
"I'm not lying Petalia. I love you." she says.
"I-i think I love you dearest. However I do not know what love is. Perhaps you can show me?" I ask. She kisses my cheek.
"Of course as long as you become mine."
"I have never been anyone's before. However I think I will enjoy being yours." I say blushing.
"Well then, let me show you love." Hare says kissing me softly. Her lips are softer then the petal of a flower, and she tastes faintly of mint from toothpaste. I close my eyes and then open them to remind myself this is actually real.
"Mad, are you okay?" Hare asks me.
"I'm sorry my beautiful Hare, I was only making sure all of this is not a dream like Alice's Wonderland was." I reply.
"Maddie no, please Maddie don't leave me." Alice cries.
I shoot up out of bed. I quickly look around, but Hare is no where to be seen. I run over to Ali's bed and wrap her in my arms.
"Its okay my dear Alice. Maddie is here." I whisper rocking her gently. Her eyes shoot open.
"Maddie, you left me. Our wonderland was on fire." she whispers.
"Wonderland is anywhere with you." I say kissing her forehead.
"Is she okay?"Queen asks opening the door.
"Dear Alice is okay yes. Just a little fright. Happened lots at the orphanage." I reply.
"Let me know if you need anything." she says leaving.
"Of course." I reply as she shuts the door.
"Will you stay with me?" Alice asks.
"Of course dear." I reply tucking her back in.
I lay with her until she falls asleep and then after that as I drift back into a dreamless sleep. Thankful for that. I could feel my heart aching as I wished that was not a dream but a reality.
