*Emilee's pov*
[The beginning of first grade]
I was unusually nervous for a 6 year old, to start first grade. Maybe it was because I'm in a new school. Yeah that's it. I don't know any of these people. All of my friends are far away now. My parents had gotten job transfers and we had to move out to California. My parents are very wealthy and take their jobs very seriously. I don't see them often because of how much they work. I'm always taken to and picked up from school by the nanny. I spend most of my time with her because she's the only one who looks after me when my parents are busy. I really like her. She does a lot of fun stuff with me.
I was sitting at a random desk in the class room since we haven't been given a certain one. Everyone around me was laughing and talking with each other while I sat alone in silence. It didn't bother me much, I don't really like talking to people I don't know.
A few minutes passed like this until someone sat in the desk across from me. I looked up to see a boy. "You're the new girl aren't you?" He asked me with a huge smile. "Yeah." I replied quietly.
"My names Johnnie. What's yours?"
I glanced up at him and he was still smiling. "Emilee." I answered feeling a bit more comfortable. "Wanna be my friend?" He asked pulling his feet into the chair and leaning his elbows on the desk.
"Yeah!"
[High school, freshman year]
"Oh my god, I can't believe we're in high school now!" I said to Johnnie as we walked down the hallway with our arms linked. "I know. I'm actually kind of scared." He replied looking over at me. I nodded "yeah so am I. But this is gonna be cool. We won't be called stupid kids anymore." I could see Johnnie smiling at me out the corner of my eye.
Johnnie and I were sitting in the lunch room at a table in the far corner. The upper classmen were giving us weird looks. I know what their thinking. They think we're freaks because of the way we dress. The things that we're into are different from average peoples interests. My parents don't like it either. See my parents are rather religious and basically the most stuck up typical rich people I've ever met. I wear a lot of band shirts and dark colors and they immediately think I'm a Satan worshiper. They don't even talk to me unless they have to. They don't look at me, they don't ask me for anything, and they don't even say good night to me before I go to sleep anymore.
I was walking back to Johnnie after taking my trey up when someone stopped me. "Can I help you?" I said nicely to the girl. She stared at me for a moment. The look on her face told me she wasn't amused with what she saw. "Your kind shouldn't be welcome here." She said with a sassy tone.
"My kind?" I asked keeping my cool. "You and that guy over there" she pointed toward Johnnie then looked back at me, "you people shouldn't be here. You should be in some mental hospital or something. We don't like people who sacrifice cats to the devil."
"Okay, this is ridiculous. We don't worship Satan. I have no idea where you got that from. Just because we dress different or like things that you people don't, doesn't mean we worship Satan. Stop being so stereotypical." With that I walked back over to Johnnie and plopped down on the bench. "What was that about?" Johnnie asked referring to the girl.
I shrugged "I don't know."
[Junior year]
Johnnie and I were at Disneyland with his friend Bryan. We had been there all day. We all had so much fun riding rides and buying useless junk that was over priced. "I think we should get going." I said as we made our way to the exit of the park. Johnnie nodded and followed me and Bryan to the car.
Bryan and Johnnie dropped me off at home. I took one step into the house and my mom came flying around the corner. "Where have you been all day?" She asked. She didn't seem angry but she seemed kind of scared. "I was at Disneyland with Johnnie and Bryan." I answered kindly not wanting to cause any trouble since they already don't like me. "I don't want you hanging out with those boys anymore. Your father and I have decided that you are going to change and start looking like the child we want to raise. We are transferring you to a private Christian school. You start next week."
I stared at her in shock trying to process what she just said. "No they're my friends! There's nothing wrong with them. And I don't want to go to private school! Francly I don't wanna be in school at all!" I replied in a panic.
"Emilee Renee you will do as your father and I say! I will not stand for you to become one of those witch craft practicing Satan worshipers."
"Mom I'm not like that! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life! I'm not doing what you say!" I yelled back at my mom. Her face dropped to a calm look. "Then you can get out of my house." She said quietly.
"What!?" I shouted in disbelief.
"Get out of my house. Go pack your stuff and get out!"
"Fine I fucking will!" I yelled and ran upstairs tears running down my face. I immediately called Johnnie as I started throwing clothes into a duffle bag.
Hey Emilee, what's up!?
Johnnie? I cried into the phone.
Emilee what's wrong
My mom just kicked me out of the house. I don't know what to do. I have no where to go.
Holy shit. Okay calm down. Bryan and I will come get you. You can come stay with us. It'll be alright.
Oh my god. Thank you so much Johnnie. You just saved my life. I love you so much.
What're best friends for?
I finished packing my things and Johnnie and Bryan picked me up a few minutes later. Johnnie pulled me into a hug once we got to their house. We stayed like that for a long while. "I'm so sorry, Emilee. Your parents are fucking crazy." He said as he pulled away. All I could do was nod. I couldn't get myself to stop crying. I knew my parents didn't like me around but I never thought they would do this.
"Maybe you should relax and get some rest and we'll figure things out later." Bryan said. Johnnie let me sleep in his room.
"Thank you so much for this Johnnie. I'll try not to get in the way. I'll get a job and find my own place as fast as possible." I said pulling the blanket up to my chin.
"No, Emilee it's fine. You can just live with us. You're not a bother at all. Relax. You don't have to worry about anything. Just be aware Bryan and I do a bunch of crazy stupid shit for YouTube videos, so please don't be scared of us." He said making me laugh a little. He gave me one last hug before leaving me in silence to sleep.
