Chapter Twenty-Seven

"At ngayon, sisimulan na natin ang unang laro para sa National Volleyball Tournament! Handa na ba ang bawat kupunan?"

"O!" sigaw ng bawat kupunan sa hudyat ng emcee.

Bawat grupo ay nahahati sa East at West Prefecture hanggang sa dalawa na lamang ang maglaro sa dulo. Bawat team ay kailangang matalo ang nasa kanilang prefecture bago makuha ang spot sa play off na paglalabanan ng apat na kupunan at sa grand battle na dalawa ang nakatakdang maglaban.

Magtatagal ang laro ng 2 linggo. Ang tatanghaling champion ay irereprisinta ang buong bansa sa international level sa darating na taon.

Kaba, takot, pagkasabik, at saya ang nararamdaman ng bawat manlalaro. Baon nila ang inspirasyon at dedikasyon para manalo.

Bawat kupunan ay maglalaban para makumpleto ang 3 set sa 5 set na gagawin.

Hapon nakatakda ang unang laro nila Astrea laban sa Hayuwe at sa susunod na araw ay sa Lirik naman sila makikipagtunggali.

Sa hindi malamang dahilan ay kinakabahan si Astrea, pero pinilit nyang kalmahin ang sarili. Alam nya na maaring mangyari ang di inaasahan pero lalaban sya para sa mga taong naniniwala sa kanya.

Leaving her is hard enough. If I could just turn down the training. But I know she would want me to go. So I did. Seeing how excited she is for me, how proud she seems made me go. I don't want to make her feel bad.

"Apo, you okay?"

"She will do just great."

I smiled and nod at her. I saw her eyes widen in surprise yet she smiled back at me.

I haven't smiled like it before unless it was needed. But with Astrea, I get to do that without me knowing.

"Your aunty is doing good, I just hope she and Kei will get on track."

I look at her. She smiled, grandpa came to us after checking the pilots.

"Kei and Moxien, they have a complex story."

"Honestly, Kei has been my doctor eversince. We know the story, but we told him to tell your aunty his reasons."

I got curious.

"Reasons?"

They both nodded. Grandpa sat and spoke, "As you know, your aunty and Kei, kmew each other..."

I don't know how long has I've been listening but I think I get to understand my aunt more, why she left me before after I graduated in middle school.

She suffered, and I didn't see that.

"She's one strong girl, and Kei doesn't actually know what happened that made her fly all the way to US."

"Is her parents with her?"

"Your grandpa Luis, her dad. She had a stepmom, Irca, a native Indian-American. Irca love Moxien so much."

They told me stories while we are going to US. But soon, it will be just me, they will go to Canada and after dropping me of to Tennessee.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and I saw one of our butlers, motioning to me that qe are almost there. I saw my grandparents having snack and talking happily. I look at my smart watch and check the time zone at Margen Koi.

'Their game begun 10 minutes earlier.'

I open my ipad and vchecked the website of the tournament. I saw a live of the game and so I watched it. I saw her, sweating, full of confidence. The first set of their game was ended with the other team's gain. I saw her walking to her groupmates and my aunt was there. They both give the same aura.

"Young master, we're landing."

I nod and off my gadget and prepare myself. Upon landing at the airport, I was greeted by a black Tesla Car and a butler.

"Young master,"

Once I got to the condo where I will stay for two weeks, I plopped on the bed. I take my ipad and watch her game again. At her every strike, I can't help but smile.

"That's my girl." I whispered.

I got a call so I sit up and take my phone, it was one of the head coach from NBA's famous team. He told me to meet them tomorrow at the local university gymnasium.

That day, I watched their game and they won it. Suddenly, I see myself picking up my phone and dialing her number.

"Hellion?"

I can't speak. My throat feels clogged.

"Hello? Hellion? Nandyan ka ba? Hello? Magsalita ka na--"

"I saw you."

"Huh? Saan?"

"I-I mean, I watched you."

She didn't speak.

"I saw you fighting there, and-- congratulations."

It seems to me that she smiled.

"Thank you. Kinabahan pa nga ako since mali ako ng set kanina, almost."

"But you won, and that's what matters."

"Okay, I'll remember that. Ikaw, kumusta ka dyan?"

"I arrived an hour ago. I am okay."

"Kumain ka na ba?"

"I haven't."

"Naku, kumain ka, kailangan mo yun."

"I will. How about you?"

"Hm, kakain kami nila Luisa sa isang resto malapit dito after namin magpalit."

"You eat well, and keep safe around."

"Yes po,"

"I'll let you off now,"

"Uhm, Hellion?"

"Hm?"

"Thank you,"

"For what?"

"For watching me, kahit malayo ka. I feel supported enough by you. Kaya, salamat."

"Rest well, Astrea."

"Good luck sa training mo Hellion, galingan mo MVP!"

I laugh to myself at how energetic she still is after all the play she did.

'You never fail to make me fall in love with you, can't you?'

I ask her picture that I made as my phone's wallpaper, then I laugh.

"God, what am I doing?"

The rest of the day, I spend it on reading a book and watching some basketball legends play.

It was 5 pm when I decided going to a nearby park and bring my ball. It was quite and solemn, I begun dribbling the ball and practice some moves that I saw. When a man came up to me.

"Can I join?"

I look at him, he was probbaly at his 40's he's tall, dark, and well physic. I pass him the ball and the next thing I knew is that I am playing basketball with him.

"Move faster kid, you're slacking."

I made my way out, but he plays something I haven't done.

Then he shot a half court shot that made me agape for the first time.

Then he passed me the ball, he tapped my shoulder and said few words.

"Play with a shadow, kid. That's street basketball."

After that, he left, and I was dumbfounded. Seems like his voice was familiar but I can't put on it who.

Then I remembered who plays street basketball swiftly, 'Kyrie Irving.' Suddenly, the ball dropped on the ground.

'I just met a giant.'
