Plot idea:
The final scenes happen at the altar of an empty church. A portal to another dimension is opened from which something emerges. An inquisitive photographer. Your character feels the temperature dropping unnaturally fast. Here we go!
~-~I was recruited by an unknown sponsor to take pictures in a church by a guy from a city over I didn't know I'd end up slowly freezing- well let me take it from the top.
Hi! I'm a landscape photographer and take jobs mostly for aesthetic pictures for flyers and such, I know boring, but I really enjoy doing it and the payment is usually enough to live, ya know?
Anyways, as I was saying someone messaged me from another random travel agency to get some pictures from a site for their flyers so I got my equipment ready and set off.
I arrived and looked up to see that I had arrived at a seemingly abandoned church, most windows were broken and there were some pieces missing from the wall. Believe it or not places like these are apparently very pleasing to they eye and many agencies like to put them on their flyers. Anyway I took my camera out and started taking pictures of the outside and some of the woods because they were lovely and in case some photos went wrong I'd have backups of the forest.
After finishing with that I moved on to the inside, being a big abandoned church full of shade when I went inside the temperature dropped very quickly but I'm used to it by now, I also noticed a strange looking altar at the front of the chapel but decided to look later and to take some pictures first, the inside looks much worse than the outside, you can see layers upon layers of dust that have gradually formed over the benches and the floor is filled with junk and papers, so I didn't take many pictures since there's nothing very picture worthy in here except for that pigeon maybe *click*.
It was getting very cold so I decided it was about time I got my coat from the car before exploring more, I had taken all the pictures I'd need from inside so I decided to finally check that altar since I saw what looked to be intresting markings on the sides of it, I stepped closer to it and apparently it was just English but with a font (we have a tight budget ok?) it read "He who eternally sleeps here, is the bringer of doom and darkness"
I sat there reading it, wondering what it could mean and I couldn't help but notice a green, slimy looking liquid inside a bowl on the altar. It smelled weirdly nicely in a way I couldn't explain, so I decided to put my hand in it, as anyone would right? Right?
Anyways, nothing happened it was a little cold at first but then I got used to it and it was rather lovely actually. So when that didn't work I decided to drink it, I mean I hadn't brought any water and I was very thirsty and that water smelled very nice, I slowly raised the bowl careful not to spill any, it was rather nice, very refreshing after all that time in the sun, I put the bowl back on the altar and started to leave when I felt a weird pain on my stomach. I sat down hoping it will pass, and at the moment I sat down I felt weirdly calm. I mean it was very quiet and the inside of the church had a lot of shade that really helped with the sunny day outside, so I'll just close my eyes.. for like a minute.. or 2.
I opened my eyes after two minutes turns out I was still in the church although I probably "closed my eyes" for longer than I thought because it was night time, I could see the plethora of stars outside the huge windows of the church, so I decided it was probably time to leave.
I walked out of the church which looked much more terrifying in the dark and ran to my car and started the drive to the city.
I arrived but something just looked off, every building seemed to have it's lights out and no one was roaming the streets and it was eerily quiet.
Then I saw it, it was in the water and at first i thought it was just a big mountain which also looked weird 8n the landscape I was used to so I turned to look at it and it started moving and slowly rising into something I can't put into words, I was terrified and couldn't help but wonder where the rest of the people in the city had disappeared.
