Living Mummy

Heather's POV

We race through the temple. Suddenly the sand in front of us starts to raise up. We stop and look at it. Then suddenly, right in front of us. Hundreds of chittering scarab beetles appear. The start scurrying towards us, making s scream. Rick shoots them and yells at us to run. We do so.

We soon reach a stair case. Jonathan and Ric jump onto a pedestal on one side of the stairs. While Evelyn and I jump on a grotto the other side. The horrible herd of vicious scarabs scurries between us on the stair case.

Evelyn sighs in relief and leans back into the wall behind us. But it gives way and she falls. Taking me with her as she had a hold of my hand. We slide down a stone slide and land in another dark chamber. "Are you ok Miss Carrahan?" I ask as we stand up.

"Yes and please call me by my first name" she tells me. I nod my head. "Are you ok?" she asks me.

"I'm fine" I assure her. I notice light. "Is that moon light?" I ask her.

"I don't, maybe. Lets check it out" she tells me. We head towards it and enter another chamber. We see a man with his back to us. "Oh thank goodness, you're one of the Americans, aren't you?" she asks the man. He turns to face us with empty eye sockets and Evelyn screams.

"Mr Burns, who did this to you?" I ask concerned as Evelyn backs away.

"My tongue, he took my tongue" he gurgles. I go to ask who, when Evelyn screams. I turn to see a living mummy and gasp in shock. I grab Evelyn pulling her away from it.

"Anck-su-namun, Sha'uri" he says.

"Please, help us" Evelyn begs Mr Burns. The mummy grabs him, throws him to the ground and sets his skeletal foot on Burns' chest, like a big game hunter standing on his kill.

"Leave him alone" I tell him firmly and shot his shoulder. He roars backing away from Burns. "Stay behind me Evelyn" I tell her. Suddenly my brother appears running around the corner.

"There you two are!" he exclaims racing over to us. "Would you both quit playin, around! Let's get outta here already!" he tells us. But he notices my gun and the look in our eyes. He turns and shouts "Whoa!" when he sees the mummy. Who yells at him. He yells back and shoots it. He grabs us and we make a run for it.

We exit the temple and are meet by the medjai and the American Egyptologist. Ardeth steps forward to address us. "I told you to leave or die, you refused. And now you may have killed us all. For you have unleashed the creature that we have feared for more than four thousand years" he states.

"Relax, I got him" Rick tells him.

"I don't think so Rick. I shout him before you and he it barely phased him" I tell him.

"No mortal weapons can kill this creature, he's not of this world" Ardeth states.

"Are we talkin, about the same creature? The walking corpse? Really big mouth? Really bad breath?" Rick asks him. Just then the medjai brought Mr Burns forward. The Americans run over to their fallen comrade.

"You bastards!" Daniels exclaims.

"What did you do to him?" Henderson demands.

"We saved him! Saved him before the creature could finish his work. Now leave, all of you, quickly, before he finishes you all" Ardeth tells us.

"Please, I want to help" I tell him.

"I'm not leaving you here with them" Rick tells me.

"You' not going to kill us?" Jonathan asks the medjai and Evelyn elbows him.

"We must now hunt him down, and try and find a way to kill him. Before he consumes the earth. Allah be with us" Ardeth says. He and the medjai head for the temple.

"I told you, I got him" Rick tells him. Ardeth glares at him.

"Know this. This creature is the bringer of death. He will never eat, he will never sleep, and he will never stop" he tells him. Before they entered the temple. We mount our camels and leave Humanaptra.
