I had trouble focusing on anything else other than Anna all class period. She had made it a point not to sit beside me and chose a seat closer to window. It disappointed me a little she didn’t sit next to me, but every so often I would see her tense and let her eyes drift to my direction. I couldn’t help but smile at the fact she was thinking about me too.

I gave up paying attention to the teacher half way through the class. I hadn’t heard a word he said anyway so there wasn’t a point to keep trying. Instead I wracked my brain for everything my mom and dad had told me about what happens when you find your mate. They didn’t say much, but from what I could remember they said that I’d know when I found her because the connection would be instantaneous, and that the more you were around each other the harder it was to be apart. They also said that the longer you take to lay claim to your mate the more anxious your wolf will become until it’s difficult to suppress him, if you can suppress him at all. It can even become painful.

I was told the amount of control over your wolf varied depending on your status as a wolf. Alphas and Betas usually had it the worst. Something to do with their position of power. I didn’t really pay attention to that part though because I wasn’t one of them.  I didn’t think me and my mom were a part of any pack at all.

Rubbing my hands on my head I tried to change my thoughts around so I wouldn’t focus on the constant pacing it felt like my wolf was doing. It wasn’t bad just kind of annoying. “Mate” he whispered in response “I want our mate.”  I blew out a long breath. What did he want me to do, go lay claim to her in front of the whole class? He let a loud purr rumble through my head answering my question. “You’re crazy if you think I’m going to claim her in front of all these people.” I thought to him annoyed. “Mate” he growled sounding defeated.

I sighed and leaned my head back on the desk. I had unconsciously started to bounce my leg. I just needed to get out of this class and away from Anna. Not that it would help, but it would give me some reprieve.

The bell sounded and I jumped up from my desk and quickly started throwing things in my bag. By the time I turned around to leave Anna was gone. My wolf was disappointed at the relief I felt but I didn’t care, having to face her right now was not a good idea. I didn’t know how in control I could stay.

I headed to my next class taking my seat in the back next to Ethan. He didn’t pay me much attention at first, too busy flirting with another cheerleader whose name I believed to be Amber.

Finally he turned to look at me furrowing his brows “What’s got you pegged?” he asked.

I shook my head not really wanting to talk.

Seeing I wasn’t going to say anything he came up with another topic of conversation. “So did you hear about the new girl yet, from what I hear she is short but hot as hell and if you say you’re not going to try for her I will?”

I was about to say I wasn’t going to be trying for her or anyone else, but then it hit me. The only new girl I knew of was Anna and no way was anyone else laying a hand on her.

Before I knew it a low growl escaped my chest as I turned to face Ethan. It wasn’t loud enough for anyone but him to hear and he shrunk away from me as I stared at him. The anger at the thought of someone else trying to get with Anna was coursing through me. “Mine” my wolf growled.
