*DISCLAIMER: I have never been pregnant and although I did extensive research (remind me never to have kids) I probably got it all wrong, but this is fiction right?*

Gulf's heart stopped as sheer terror enveloped him and his arms wrapped around his stomach.

"What's wrong? Why are they coming early? I thought I had another month? Is there something wrong with my babies, please doctor?" Gulf fired questions at the doctor as she busied herself around the room grabbing instruments.

Mew's hand came up to clasp their palms together while he tried to soothe Gulf with his thoughts, but he was fraught with trepidation.

"One question at a time Gulf", the doctor chuckled "we just did a scan yesterday, the babies are healthy and we just checked that their heart rates are normal. They just want out a little early. It's typical in multiple births. Although, shifter babies generally don't come early, so I'm not going to lie they probably haven't had time to fully develop their tails. You might have to be careful with that area, but all will tell in a short time."

Mew caressed his cheek with his other hand, "it's ok. The babies are fine kosdyr. We're going to be parents soon" he finished as his voice choked with emotion.

Gulf tried to relax but the stress was weighing him down and his heart was racing the longer he was on the exam table. What if his babies didn't make it?

"Gulf, I'm going to need you to relax", the doctor stated as she handed him a gown "get changed and we'll check to see how dilated you are back there."

Dr. Kun made her way towards the door before she paused and turned to Mew, "you also need to decide how far this non-disclosure goes. I'm going to need my nurses' assistance to deliver these babies."

Mew's nose wrinkled up at the idea, "how many?"

"At the bare minimum two will be sufficient."

Mew gave a brief nod, "bring them in, but please, word about this cannot get out until we're ready."

"I understand Mew, I'll call them in, and we'll get this show started. Buckle in guys, this might take a while."

The doctor left the room and Gulf slid off the exam table changing quickly into his gown as his belly contracted painfully. He hunched over while grabbing onto Mew's shoulder roughly as he breathed through the contraction.

God, I hate to see him in pain.

"It's ok paaka without this pain we would never see our children" Gulf replied even as it felt like someone was mashing his insides while a boulder fell on his pelvis. Pain blossomed in his lower back, and he whimpered at the ache.

"What's wrong Gulf?"

"Back. Pain." He muttered as he bent over the exam table to relieve some of the pressure.

Mew sidled up behind him and began massaging the small of his back and hips, "does this help?"

Gulf moaned in gratitude as the gown bunched up beneath Mew's magical hands, "thank you, paaka."

How long will I have to see him like this?

"Until the babies decide to make their debut", Gulf snorted in mock amusement. He hoped they came soon. Didn't people have hours in labor? He didn't think he could handle that.

My mate can handle anything!

Gulf laughed at Mew's proud thoughts as the doctor swished back into the room.
