As soon as you go outside the firm building's entry doors, you hear the hard patter of raindrops, quickly rummaging through the leather bag in your left hand. Your brows furrowed in perplexity, your face wrinkled up. You could have packed your umbrella if you hadn't been running late this morning. You stayed still, sighing in despair, your gaze fixed on the ground as the droplets of rain continued to fall down, producing a slew of small puddles in every drop on the pavement. You stood there, silently wishing that it would stop soon.
You flinched as you felt the subtle vibration in your skirt pocket from your phone, jolting you out of your dreary weather thoughts. A single streak of text notification flashed across the screen as you extracted the device from its constraints. Your customary stoic demeanor and current gloomy attitude quickly softened upon seeing who the recipient was, and reading the message's contents.
From: Chifuyu <3
: already finished with ur shift? To: Chifuyu <3
: Yeah. I am still at the company though. From: Chifuyu <3
: why?To: Chifuyu <3
: It's raining. I forgot my umbrella at home.From: Chifuyu <3
: can you wait for a few minutes?
: i'm on my way, i'll drive you homeTo: Chifuyu <3
: Alright. I'll be waiting be at the main door. You paused for a moment, your thumbs making contact with the screen. The blue cursor blinks, waiting for any messages that could communicate your true feelings and thoughts. Debating whether or not to send the follow-up message to your boyfriend.
To: Chifuyu <3
: Would you like to stay at my place tonight?
: I love you. :-*You sighed to yourself as you mustered the confidence to click on the paper plane icon.
You could only grit your teeth in frustration when the screen abruptly went blank, much to your dismay. In annoyance, you shove your phone back into your skirt pocket. Fate seems to be quite good at playing their cards.
You carefully pushed up the cuff of your blazer jacket, checking the time on your wrist watch. The sound of your court shoes tapping on the pavement is muffled by the torrential downpour outside. You tried to keep yourself occupied while waiting; simply counting the number of automobiles going along the road across your position.
"Hey."
An all too familiar voice approched you from behind. You turned your attention towards the man, flashing him a soft smile.
"Shall we go?" Chifuyu smiled, quickly grasping her right hand with his left. Other hand holding the umbrella glazing over the two of you together. He led you to the car's passenger seat, opening and closing the door for you, stuffing your briefcase into the backseat. He followed suit inside the car.
---
The ride inside the car was deafeningly quiet, with your boyfriend's gaze fixed on the road. You turn your gaze outdoors, to the brilliant vehicle and city lights, as well as the traffic signs, which seemed to dissolve in the mist of the calm rain. Perhaps counting the number of automobiles that passed one after the other has become your hobby to pass the time.
"Want to stay at my place tonight?" you asked, interrupting the cozy stillness. As the car drew to a standstill, noticing a red light front of you. You turned to face Chifuyu, who's attention is now focused on you. Still holding the steering wheel with my his hand, slender fingers lightly tapping on it.
"Yeah...sure," he replied completely nodding along with his words.
"Besides," he said, "I wanted to see Peke J again."
He stepped on the gas pedal, the light in front of you indicating green.
---
Upon opening your apartment door, the two of you were met with a loud meow. Peke J seemed to have been anticipating your return. The cat instantly crept onto Chifuyu's leg as he lifted it up and nuzzled its raven fur against his chest.
You laughed as the scene unfolded in front of you, retiring to your room to have a change of clothes.
"Oh yeah..."
As you exited the room in your sloppy pajamas and large shirt, your lover had already taken a seat on the couch with Peke J beside him. He cocked his head in your general direction. You threw him the clothes he left behind when he came here once. Your reaction to the prospect of his garments falling on top of his head soon faded as he effortlessly caught it in mid-air.
"I already washed it, you can go change in the bathroom or something. I'll cook something for dinner."
You heard the bathroom door click as you rummaged through your fridge for something edible other than junk food and chocolates. Simply grinning to yourself upon seeing the primary ingredients stashed behind a few bags of potato chips.
"Here's what we have for today!" you beamed towards the man sitting right in front of you across the small wooden table. He gladly accepted the bowl of ramen with both of his hands.
"Thank you for the food."
Seeing him wearing the same white sweater and basic dark trousers as he did on your first night together, a wave of heat surged up to your cheeks. You lowered your gaze to avoid his sight.
"Is there something wrong?" he calmly asked as he soon as he saw you looked a bit off than before.
"No, it's nothing... It's just that you seemed to really enjoy the ramen I made."
"Of course! It was you who made it, so it's something special. Besides, you did really improved a lot with your cooking compared from before." he chuckled, remembering how bland your soup tastes within the first time he tried it. Regardless of the fact that he completed his own bowl despite its taste, you were embarrassed to believe that he is willing to put up with your mediocre housekeeping skills.
"I—I practiced! Of course, I'll get better!" As you cleared the plates and cutlery from the table, you stood up from your seat, feeling even more ashamed.
"I'll take care of the dishes. You could go play with Peke J or watch TV." You walked towards the sink, turning your back on him. He got up from his seat and followed you.
"I'll help." he said grabbing the plate and sponge from your hand and proceeded to scrub them. "You're the one doing the rinsing alright? I can't let you have all of the work by yourself..."
---
Your eyes felt heavy as you blinked slowly in front of the television show, attempting to stay awake. You yawned and rested your head on Chifuyu's shoulders. He drapes a nice blanket over the two of you as he slings his arm over your shoulders across the couch. You quietly smiled, at ease with his warmth beside you.
"Where has... Peke J... gone?" you murmured beside between your slumber as the faint sound of the movie you're watching fades into the background.
"He is already on his bed sleeping. You should already sleep by now..."
Chifuyu looked over his right shoulder after a few moments of silence. With your eyes calmly closed and a gentle smile, his face softens. He took out the remote and turned off the cartoon show that you were both watching. This sensation of warmth during chilly seasons is one of his favorite aspects of being with you. He leaned in closer, placing light kisses on your temple.
"Sweet dreams."
