Chapter 8: Final Tide

"I already told you. There's no need for royalty to take the same exam as peasants." The girl tried to protest but Nozel turned around saying

"Your destination has already been decided. Do not take unnecessary action." The girl dropped her head and replied,

"Yes, Brother Nozel," Nozel then walked away saying

"Your existence itself is unnecessary." The girl grunted in defeat and gripped her broom tighter in anger.

Third Person POV

The exams went by as quickly as they came for (Y/n) and Yuno. With every exam, they completed awes from the other contestants increased, but for Asta, he could be said otherwise. Finally, the last exam came,

(Y/n) POV

"For the last exam you will engage in actual combat" William, Captain of Golden Dawn, announced. Everyone looked around whispering and muttering about the last exam, I somewhat expected this and wasn't shocked

"You will be battling!" All the muttering and whispering stopped once Fuegoleon shouted that sentence.

"You will pair off and fight with your partner. You may use your Grimoire to attack." Fuegoleon continued. So if we lose, it will severely affect our evaluations. Nice thinking, I thought to myself

"Fighting is our duty. Show us your true abilities!" Fuegoleon shouted, 

"As soon as one of you yields or becomes unable to fight, the exam will be over. There will be healing mages who can use healing magic on standby." Willian explained

"So fight to your heart's content!" Fuegoleon ended. I sweat-dropped I think 'Fighting to our heart's content is a bit reckless. But I shook my head and went off to find a sparring partner

"First Contestants!" I stood in the crowd of people beside Yuno gripping his sleeve so that I won't get lost in the crowd.

As Asta was talking to his partner I continued to look around for a partner until I heard the mage shout Begin. I turned around just to see the Ho-ha guy inside a cannonball, Asta opened his Grimoire and ran towards the Ho-ha guy while breaking the cement ground and pulled out a claymore and broke the cannonball along with the floor where he was standing, The crowd gasped and I and Yuno smiled. Ho-ho guy fainted from Asta's claymore.

"I'm not joining the Magic Knights so I can have a good time and avoid working hard. I'm here to work my butt off and become Magic King!" Asta said confidently, to be honest, I thought Asta looked cool there for a second but my train of thoughts snapped when I caught a glance of the grimoire that was covered in scarlet and black magic, a memory that I didn't know I had flashed through my mind.

A pale man with pointy ears, a face covered with red colored ,tattoos and white color braided hair dressed in white robes, stood on a podium in front of people who had the same features as him. In his hand was the same grimoire that Asta had except that it is much cleaner than the state it was now. The pale man seemed to be announcing something to the crowd which made it cry in joy and throw flowers into the air.

As the memory finished, I stumbled back. I held onto Yuno for support and he held me steady.

"Are you okay? What happened?" Yuno asked worriedly, I shook my head and replied
