The Adventures of A Lifetime

Chapter One - The Dark Woods

Peter sat on his bed playing with his toy robot and his collection of dinosaurs. In the other room his parents sat with the family doctor, Peter couldn't hear what they were discussing so he continued to play. The family dog known as Rocky, a black and white border collie, sat in the corner of Peter's room watching him play. Before long, his mother came in and began to talk with him. "Hey there Pete, your father and I need to talk with the doctor for a bit in private. How about you and Rocky play outside in the woods? Just remember not to explore past the outer edges of it. Alright?"

Peter nodded before getting his shoes on and bringing Rocky outside with him. He stared up at the sky, it was just past 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Peter knew he had to be back home before dinner time, so he set off on his journey. Peter and Rocky spent what felt like hours in the dark and mysterious forest. About half an hour into their adventure, a large dark creature begins to stalk them through the trails. Rocky growls and Peter grabs a small branch and swings it like a sword at the large creature. "Slay the beast Rocky," Peter yells and Rocky jumps towards it bringing the beast to the ground.

The beast chased them off their trail and they are now lost deep into the woods, they must find their way back before night falls. Rocky leads the way, weaving through branches, vines, and fallen trees. Peter stops dead in his tracks as he hears a low growl from behind them. He turns around to see a giant tree monster who slowly begins to wrap him and Rocky in it's vines. Peter reaches for his branch sword but to no luck he is unable to reach it. His brave partner Rocky bites the vines, making the monster drop him. Rocky jumps on the back of the creature and scratches it's back, forcing it to drop Peter before running towards the branch sword and returning it to his master. Peter picked up his blade and hit the giant tree monster with it, slaying the large beast and continuing his adventure. They arrive towards a small creek with stones allowing them to step across safely before reaching the other side of the forest.

"Rocky, LOOK!" Peter shouts as he looks through the opening in the trees. They finally made it through the forest and safely back to the lush green field behind their house. Peter and Rocky run towards the house, almost sprinting into the door. When they come back home the doctor has already left and dinner has just been put on the table.

"Oh, Peter, your back earlier than you normally are. But, dinner has just been finished so i guess it's perfect timing," his mother said as he came inside. Peter sat down and Rocky sat on the floor beside him eating his own dinner. As they finish their dinner they say their goodnights and head off to bed. As Peter is being tucked in by his parents, Rocky jumps up on the bed and lays down beside him.
