I take my place among the screaming and applauding dauntless. One of the girls pokes my side, "Good choice girlie." She winks at me and I admire her haircut. She had streaks of purple and the left side of her head was shaved where she wore a tattoo which looked like tree branches. That's the one thing I liked about them. They could dress up however they liked.
I looked around to see if I my sister was there. No sign of her. I thought maybe she had forgotten about me probably because she had not even come to congratulate me.
After the ceremony ended we all made our way out the hall with our respective factions. As soon as they reached outside, they broke into a run. I knew I was a fast runner so had no difficulty in catching up to them. They ran towards the city trains and one by one started jumping into the moving trains. I took a deep breath and took a leap towards them and landed inside on my knees. Pain shot through my body but I ignored it. I was dauntless now, I had to be brave and strong.
"Good job, initiates." a guy with blonde hair and a septum piercing greeted us. He was twice my size and for a moment I was scared of him. "You have all passed the first test to be a Dauntless." Test? I didn't know we had more tests.
"You'll go through a series of tasks. There are 25 initiates this year out of which only the top 10 will make into Dauntless." What happens to the rest?" a girl spoke. She had a skin tone slightly darker than mine and short black hair.
"They become factionless." We all knew about the factionless. They were usually the beggers on the street and only the Abnegation were kind enough to provide them with food.
"We weren't told that," she continued to argue.
"Listen here initiate," his voice boomed. "You can only survive here if you keep your mouth shut." She didn't reply after that. And I thought I had made a great choice by choosing not to speak at all.
"You're from candor?" I whispered to her judging by her big mouth.
"Yup. I'm Samantha." she smiled.
"Selena." and we both shook hands. At least I had made one friend.
"Here it comes initiates," the huge blonde guy spoke. "We're supposed to jump of the train."
No one objected to whatever he said and one by one they jumped off the train. Me and Samantha jumped together and we landed on our backs onto the roof.
"That was close," Samantha laughed and offered me her hand.
"Yeah, thanks." I let out a slight laugh.
"Allright. Listen up initiates. My name is Kris and i'll be one if your instructors here. The rest of your instructors are waiting down for you." He pointed to a huge black hole.
Everyone started to panic.
"Where does it end?" a tall guy named Pete spoke.
"Why don't you find out for yourself? " Kris smirked. "Who would like to go first? "
No one agreed to go first.
"Come on you pussies. You're dauntless for crying out loud!"
I took a deep breath and finally spoke. "Me, I'll go first."
