____Chapter One____;
The sun was setting, reminding me that tomorrow was even closer than what I thought. As if my mom could read my mind she said, ;Tomorrow is bound to come, no need getting yourself all worked up about it;.;
Turning around I rolled my eyes so she couldn't see me. Of course she didn't care that I was being sent off to the Hall of Councils, she didn't care about anything.;
At the end of each month boys and girls who had a birthday within the current month would be sent off to the Hall of Councils once they turned sixteen. And tomorrow was December 31, the last day of the month of December, I turned 16 that past December 5th.;
I wiped my hands on the front of my overalls saying, ;I'm going to head back home so I can get dinner started early tonight.; Truthfully I could care less about dinner right now, I just wanted to get away from everyone. And the back roads that led to my house were usually abandoned.;
;Good idea, I'm sure that will put your dad in a better mood;, mom replied quickly as a customer walked over to our booth.;
;Step dad;, I muttered, hating how she always referred to him as my actual father.;
Right as I was about to walk away I could feel a shiver go up my back as if someone was breathing down the nape of my neck. Slowly moving my eyes upward I saw a man looking straight at me. He was wearing a black cloak and a hood over his face. But I could see the brim of his eyes, they were a creamy blue, like a soft churned milk. Anyone who saw those kind of eyes knew exactly what they were. And I knew, that the person staring at me, was a vampire.;
Sucking in a sharp breath I quickly looked back down towards the ground, and walked out from behind our booth. Me and my mom worked in the market place where thousands of humans came to buy things or work in there own booths beside of us.;
But never had I ever seen a vampire, or any other horror creature for that matter on human grounds.;
Why was he looking at ME? And the way he looked at me... I quickly put those thoughts aside coming to the conclusion that I was just being paranoid. Besides I had enough on my mind, with tomorrow being the day I'd be sent away, I didn't need any more stress added onto my plate.;
Pushing past people who were stopping to admire the various things at each booths I finally reached the arch that would take me out of the market place. No one had to look hard to see where the towns market was, just look for the arch which was the entrance.;
All you had to do was look up towards the sky and you couldn't miss it. It was a massive white marble arch that almost touched the sky. It was blinding to look directly at, especially once the sun glared across it.;
Even though the arch was so huge it was hard to get through, since thousands of people were constantly coming in and out of the market place. The arch was the only opening to come in and exit out of, since outside all the rest of the market was surrounded by electoral fences.;
I tried as best as I could to move past everyone so I could just get to the back roads, and be on my way home. Becoming impatient I focused my mind on the cool, still air around me. Suddenly I could feel the tingling power flowing throughout my body. My fingers twitched with eagerness.;Shesheá;, I whispered to air.;
Within seconds a powerful wind started to gust throughout the whole market place. Flicking my fingers toward the crowd surrounding me underneath the arch, the wind shoved them aside forcefully, giving me a clear walkway so I could move through the arch easily.;
