I can't believe it. Out of all the people here, the people who decided to adopt just happen to be the family of TT.
"Andrew, go get Fin." Joyce says. The kid - Andrew, I guess - nods and runs upstairs. 'Well this is awkward.' I think. Moments later, the Andrew guy comes back downstairs with Fin and saves us all from awkwardness.
"Alright." Joyce claps her hand together, like she's teaching kindergarten. "This is Cathy. Cathy, This is Fin," She points him out. "he's 16. Apparently you know Troy Thomas and how he's 14. Last, but not least, is Andrew. He's 12." I just nod.
"Troy Thomas," She continues. Why doesn't she just call him TT? "Since you know Cathy, why don't you show her around?" It's more of demand than a question. He nods and gets up.
"So that was the living room. To your left you've got the kitchen. If you follow me up these stairs, you will find my parents room in the right, then Andrews room, my room, then Fin's, and finally yours. Next to your room is the bathroom us kids share. Any questions for the top floor." He says all this as if he was doing a professional tour.
"Yeah. Was all that really necessary ?" I ask.
"Yup." He answers. "Onto the downstairs. Once you drop off your duffel bag." So the rumors are true. He really is very immature. I put my duffel bag on the floor of what is now my room and we had back downstairs.
"You have already seen the kitchen an living room, so if you follow me, I will show you the dining room and the den." I mentally groan and continue following my guide. After TT forcing me to memorize every part of the house, I am finally able to unpack.
I pull out one of my sweatshirts an almost start crying. This had been my little sisters before she passed away. Most of my clothes were either hers or my older brothers. Before I know it, tears are running down my cheeks. Someone slightly knocks on my door. I quickly wipe away some tears before I open it. It's TT.
"You okay?" He asks. I nod.
"I'm fine."
"Cathy, don't lie. You're obviously not."
"You're right. I'm not." I sigh.
"Then why bundle up these feelings. It's not gonna help." His dark blue eyes look into mine with something I haven't seen in a long time: brotherly love.
T R O Y T H O M A S ( T T )
I had just given Cathy the tour when I hear what sounds like crying. 'She needs a brother.' A voice inside my head says. 'Someone who can comfort her.'
I walk over to her door and lightly knock on it. The crying stops, and the door opens. Cathy's eyes are red and puffy from all the crying.
"You okay?" I ask. Idiot. Of course she's not.
"I'm fine." She says.
"Cathy, don't lie. You're obviously not." I say.
"You're right. I'm not."
"Then why bundle up these feelings." I stare into her piercing blue eyes as she stares back into mine.
"Can you come in?" She asks. I nod and she opens the door wider. I walk in and she closes it behind me. We sit on the bed, and I wait.
"It's just, no one understands or will let me talk about my family." She begins. I stay silent. "You know how school's like. At the home, nobody wanted to hear cause they all had their own problems. They could relate, but would never help." Cathy is on the verge of tears.
"I'll listen." I say.
"And then forget it all." She says with a sigh.
"I promise I won't. I'll listen and remember all of it."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
