Betrayal.

Ah, yes, the act of thinking one thing about someone only to have them lie. Gather round children, for I have a story to tell you. It's about a girl who might be one of you someday.
From a young age the girl was told to accept everyone for who they are. It doesn't matter what their race is, what religion they believe in, what life choices they make. She had to accept everyone for who they are.
-
Fast forward quite a few years. A freshman in highschool has just discovered who she is. She's a bisextual, atheistic, vegetarian, and she loves who she is. She has hidden confidence, yet speaks her mind when she wants to. Years previous she was bullied both physically and emotionally, so she chooses her words wisely.
-
One day she goes up to her parents and says 'hey Mom, Dad, I'm atheist.' Getting something that's been bothering her for quite sometime off her chest she feels alot better. Unfortunately, she's instead stuck with her parents snapping at her for not believing in anything and how sad of a life that was going to be for her. Turn out they were right. It was a sad life to live. A sad life because the people she once loved were against her being herself.
-
A while later, she admits that she no longer consumes meat. They said they supported her. Yea, right. When someone supports another's life choice they say, 'oh your blank? That's cool.' And then life goes on how it normally does. There's no need to get caught up in the fact that someone's different. The girls parents would always ask her stuff like, 'Ewww! How can you eat that stuff? It's gross!' 'Just quit being a vegetarian We all know you want to continue eating meat, so just drop it.' 'Hey, are you doing all of this for attention?' Although it hurt the girl's feelings, she ignore their comments.
-
One day in the snowy month of January, she fell in love. She felt things for her best friend. So one day she went up to her friend and spilled her feelings. Everything felt estatic for her when her friend agreed. They dated for a week before the girl was too stressed to continue the relationship, so they returned to their previous friend status. Her friend was female, the same gender as her. Now, most of you might know where this is going, but allow me to explain in greater detail it all. The girl's parents wouldn't accept her because of the fact she liked someone of the same gender. They always said things like, 'You do understand you don't really love her.' 'You're not bisexual. I know you aren't.' Or my personal favorite, 'Do you understand what it means to be bisexual? You do understand that means you want to have sex with females too, right?'
-
Right then and there the girl no longer loved her parents. They had their three pitches and they missed everytime. It's a sad thing really. And it that wasn't bad enough, they had to fuck it all up even more by saying her dream in life of finding her soulmate was a shitty goal and that she needs a better goal for herself.
-
In this day and age, you would've guessed that her parents would understand that she's just trying to find out who she is. Everytime they denied her who she was, she began to wonder if she was who she was. Every. Single. Time. She doesn't know waht she feels. She doesn't know what's going on around her. Hell, she no longer knows who she is anymore! Just because the people who said they would always accept her, no matter what she did, turned out to have lied right to her face.
-
Her identity issues are getting out of hand. She often prefers to be left alone to her own thoughts. To her own dreams. She dreams of a place where everyone will accept her. She dreams of a place where she can be accepted and know reasuringly that who she is, is who she wants to be.
-
I'm not sure how much longer she'll be on this Earth. Sometimes she wants to end it all right then and there. She fakes a smile around others. She has to stop herself from crying when she's around them. After confessing to so many things in her life. Admitting she's falling into depression is one thing she most likely won't tell her parents, seeing as how they'll just deny it being there, claim she's seeking attention, or make fun of her for it.

Now you, my dear reader, may become a parent one day. You may have a child one day. A child you love with all your heart. Keep this story in mind the day they come home and tell you who they are. Don't treat them any differently than you would've before. Kids are smarter than you think, and the last thing you want them to think about is the hurtful words you made about them, the lack of acceptance you've given them, or the feelign of being betrayed by their only remaining childhood friends. Give them the hope they desire. Give them the life they chose to live. Give them the love they deserve for being themselves. It just takes
