Today was the start of your new job. You were so excited that you barely even contain yourself. Were you excited to meet some new people that might need your help? Fuck yea. Were you also excited to also potentially die as well? Fuck yea. Before you got out of your car, you flipped down the mirror to see if you were presentable and to your delight, you were. You straightened your coat once you stepped out and took a deep breath. "Today is gonna be great." You smiled a little too optimistically and made your way to the door. The security at the front checked you and let you in. There was a very sleepy front desk man. "Hi!!" He startled awake. "Oh... hello.." "I'm the new doctor starting today! I'm-" "Y/n L/n?" He droned out and slowly looked up at you. "Uh.. yes!" He hummed, pushed up his glasses, and put a hand to his head and it looked like he was turning an imaginary gear or screw on his head. And with a few clicks of computer keys, he pulled out quite a few papers. He looked at them and his eyes widened a bit and did the 'alright' nod.
He then handed them to you and you thanked him. You knew that you were being way too happy about this whole ordeal, but if you were to show any of your own mental problems, you would probably get eaten alive. Both literally and figuratively. "How your schedule works is that you see three to four patients a day. You listen to the warnings to an absolute tee, understand?" He seemed very serious about the warnings part. "Yessir Mr. Front Desk Sir!" You grinned and saluted. He paused for a second and laughed darkly. "That optimism of yours will quickly get shattered once you step foot through those doors, y'know that right kid?" He leaned back in his chair and returned your grin. "Maybe, maybe not!" You laughed and thought about how bad your patients were gonna be. There were some sniffles as someone guided a woman out the guest door and you tried not to look. "See what I mean?" He smirked. You liked this guy. "I guess I do." You smiled once more. "Well, I guess I must go in and brave the unknown." You made a heroic pose and the desk man laughed again. He waved you off and you waved goodbye to him. He kept on the smile until you completely went through the doors and then groaned.
"That kid's gonna die today aren't they?" He hit his head on the desk and once the words came out of his mouth, he clocked out.
*
You smiled as the doors closed and started walking. The smell of metal, bleach, and sanitizer filled your nose. Letting a breath out, you flipped through the pages as the familiar screams of the damned, the cries of the raged, and whimpers of the confused filled your ears. Some arms reached out to you, as the doors had small openings, begging for you to let them out. Some you looked up to and stopped outside their door. "I'm sorry, I wish I could, but you're not my patient!" You smiled at their horrified and crazed expression and as you left, you could hear their slowly fading screams and cries. You started to hum to a song that just appeared in your head. "Page one." You giggled.
Name: Hanagaki Takemichi
Sex: Male
Age: 20
Status: B'What does the B mean?' You've never seen a ranking report on a patient before. That was a little concerning.
Illness(s): Bipolar depression, PTSD
'Not a lot huh? Well I guess they must be really bad for having a B rate.' You pouted a bit as you thought.
Warning(s): May act as though they are fine and stable. Will try and ask about doctors outside life. May ask what's going on outside. Is pleasant to speak with. Can be violent if asked the wrong questions.
"What- why is being pleasant to speak with a warning?" You wondered aloud. "Because he can manipulate you into saying things that you shouldn't. Hence the other warnings." A doctor passing by answered your question without even looking at you or your paper. You watched as he turned a corner and out of your sight. The last thing you saw was his headband turning the said corner. "Oh fun." You nervously said and looked back. "Ok, I should be fine. He doesn't seem that bad." You smiled and walked off to find the cell number. You found it, and studied it for a moment. It was a very thick looking door other than the ones you saw when you first started walking through the halls. The handle also looked different. You couldn't tell whether or not to open it like a normal door, or slide it open. You shrugged and whipped out your keys. Turning the key and hearing the slightly loud click, you opened the very heavy door. Expected. You quickly stepped inside and pulled the door closed.
A guy with blonde-ish hair looked up from playing with his fingers. "Oh, hello!" He smiled. "Hi! I'm Y/n! How are you?" "I'm alright! What about you?" He seemed so calm. You smiled and nodded in affirmation that you were fine. "Could I sit?" You pointed to the chair and he nodded. "So..." You both said and laughed at each other. "May I ask how things are like out there? It's fine if you don't wanna answer." That was quicker than you thought. "Well it was pretty sunny when I came so-" You nervously laughed, and you instantly knew that what you gave wasn't the answer he wanted. "O-ok.." It was very awkward. "Could you tell me your favorite color?" You looked up and down from your notes and back to Hanagaki out of pure nervousness. "Hmmmm... lemme think..." He placed a hand to his chin. He started tapping his foot too, which made you smile. "I would have to say either blue or orange." He smiled and laid his head on his arms. "I like blue too!" You smiled once again, and wrote it down. You were most likely gonna do a lot of smiling today weren't you?
"You don't like orange?" He asked and you snapped your head up. "I.. um.. well it's a good color, it's just not exactly one of- you know what, I lied. I like orange too." You laughed because you didn't want to get on his bad side. "Orange was the color of my girlfriend's hair." He swooned and that got your attention. He had a girlfriend before all of this? "I haven't seen her in years and she doesn't visit me though. Makes you wonder what happened to her.." He smiled sadly. 'Was that a manipulation trick?' Hangaki was a very confusing and interesting patient to be with for only 10 minutes of being with him. "Was she pretty at least?" You laughed and he quickly nodded his head like a happy puppy. "She was absolutely gorgeous." He seemed so happy talking about his girlfriend. He talked about everything from when he met her to when he gave her a forever necklace, though this was before he was sent here. "Could I ask her name?" You were genuinely grinning at this point because his happiness was infectious. "Her name..? Oh wait, it's Tachibana Hinata. Nearly forgot there, hehe."
Wait.
'Hina's boyfriend..?'
Your eyes widened as you remembered that one day when you were out with Hina, she mentioned a boyfriend from the past, but something came up and she had to break up with him. Or was it just the fact that she couldn't see him? You saw that his mouth was still running about Hina, but you were still in shock that your patient was one of your best friends' boyfriend. "You look like you know her or something." Hanagaki stopped, a little out of breath because of his rambling. "Ah, you must be one of her friends. Could you tell me how she's doing?" He smiled and sighed. "Well last time I checked she was alright." You mimicked his posture and he laughed. His gaze wavered into something that you didn't like and knew you had to change the subject somehow. "How bout you tell me about some other things about you? Aside from Tachibana." You stretched and sat up, waiting for him to respond. "I don't really have anything about me that's all that interesting. Although my friends and I fill up this entire ward. Not all of them are my friends but we all know each other." He crossed his arms.
You wondered for a split second if all your patients were all these people he was mentioning. "Alrighty, well, I guess that's my time with you. I'll see you the same day next week, ok?" You stood up and flashed a bright smile and now, you saw the look in his eyes for longer than before. His eyes were dark, and had this sort of murderous intent. You let a small bit of the same intent into your smile and he smiled as well. "Well I guess I'll see you then Doc!" He nervously laughed as if nothing happened. You grinned, with your hand firmly on the door handle and kept waving as you slipped out and shut it. You let yourself turn around and let your back hit the door. "Whew.. well that wasn't so bad." Smiling, you took a breath of relief that he didn't get violent with you and was overall a pretty easy patient to deal with. How future sessions we're gonna go you had no fucking clue. There was a snake of confidence that slithered into your head as for how you were gonna handle the rest of the day and put on this shit-eating grin of yours. You then whipped out your clipboard, put a small smiley face beside Hanagakis name, and flipped the page.
(they're supposed to be short lmao-)
