First Summer

Summer break started.

Mom decided to hire a tutor, even though my grades won't flunk any lower. I didn't particularly like it or hate it either so I agreed, instead of spending a whole summer break doing nothing. I don't hang out with my friends from school either, they have their own lives to begin with.

My parents are not strict but they're too obsessive with my grades that they don't miss a chance to ask about my performance in school, and if I needed more studying sessions in a cram school or I needed a tutor. In the first place, I don't really care whichever, I don't have anything in mind on what to get in college. I'm still in my second year of high school so that's a given. Well, I hate crowds for starters, I'd rather pick the tutoring than cram school.

Summer afternoon.

I am sitting in front of my desk in my room, doing my homework when the knock on the door resonates the room. I looked in its direction, mumbling, "Yes?"

It opened, standing tall behind mom is a man. By the looks of it, it must be the tutor she hired.

"Sweety, here's your tutor. He'd be starting today, hm?" she said sweetly, stepping aside for him to step inside my room.

"Oh, hello," I greeted. I don't know what face am I making but he's too damn beautiful that I can't take my eyes off him. The mole below his lip accentuates the obvious beauty of his face, he must be an omega with his beauty and soft features.

"Hello, Mr. Wang, nice to meet you," he greeted back, bowing slightly.

Flustered, I immediately shook my hands in front of me, "No, please just call me Yibo!" I remarked. It sounds like I'm old when he calls me that.

"Oh, Yibo," he mumbles, flashing his smile, cutely showing his rabbit teeth.

"I guess I should leave you two?" Mom interrupted, holding the knob of the door. "Study well!" she giggled before leaving us alone.

"Hello, Yibo. I'm Xiao Zhan, you can call me Zhan. I'll be your tutor for a few days," he introduced.

"I'm Wang Yibo, second year in high school. Nice to meet you," I replied, grabbing his hands. When our skin met, a slight feeling of static electricity crept on me that I immediately let go. What was that?

It's a new feeling but I shrugged it off, turning around to grab an extra seat and placed it beside mine. "You can sit here," I said, not batting an eye, my cheeks kinda feels warm but I ignored.

And our session started, I laid out my notes and he guide me through them. Until one time I asked a slightly tricky question, Pushing the notebook for him to look but he leaned to met it halfway. Our faces are inches far from each other, and a smell of strawberry and honey came whiffing under my nose. It's sweet, delicious, and addicting that I unconsciously sniffed.

"Yibo?" He suddenly uttered, bringing me back to reality. "Are you okay?" the worried voice of him resonates in my ears, like his scent, his voice is sweet to my ears.

"I'm okay!" a little panickily. What if he finds me rude or even weird for sniffing his scent like that? That would make a bad impression on him.

"I thought you're sick," he remarked and I'm so glad he didn't notice that. "So the part here is, from the renaissance period, their art was made from ...."

.

The days passed quickly, there's still two days before school starts again.

Zhan has been diligently coming every twelve noon to tutor me. He'd been very attentive to my progress and weaknesses in every session and he's patient with the parts I hardly understand. Along the way, he smiles, giggles, supplies random jokes and stories, and praises me with a pat on my head.

Didn't think I'm slowly falling. Didn't think that the smell of strawberry and honey will fill my head until I fall asleep at night. Didn't think that I'd feel giddy in waiting for him to come at twelve noon for our tutoring session. Didn't think my heart would burst when I see his enthralling smile. Didn't think I would fall.

And so the clock struck twelve, the door of my room opens without a knock. He'd been coming every day that he didn't need to knock and just enters my room like he owns it.

"So what are we learning today?" he asks, putting down his bag beside the desk and sat at the seat that were spared for him.

"This, I've been having a hard time with this," I muttered, holding out my book in history.

He scoots closer to look at it. There, the sweet scent of strawberry and honey whiffs under my nose.

"Is it about Qin dynasty?...."

He's saying something, I can't really understand what it is. He's so close. His face is so clean and poreless, his nose is pointed, and his lips were so plump. He smells nice, I just want to smell him all day and I'm satisfied. Oops, wait, some of his hair is covering his beautiful eyes.

Unconsciously, my hand held out to fix his astray fringe to tuck it on his ears, "I  like you..." and I slipped.

Long silence resonated. Then I realized, I fcked up. Why did that slip out of my mouth?

The whole session was awkwardly quiet. The tutoring continues as usual but not as fun as the past few days. I'll ask and he'd answer, he'd talk but a bit wary than before.

I fcked up real good.

The tutoring finished as usual, but the pat on my head was not given. The beautiful smile that he gives before he leaves were replaced with a neutral face. The cheerful 'bye-bye' was replaced with a formal bow.

The next day, mom told me he already quit the tutoring. She said that he already had earned enough money, and it's already the last day so it's okay. My world crashed, summer break has ended and my first love ran away.
