I dropped the tray into the disinfectant tub, carefull not to splash myself. It floated amongst bits of dried egg and bacon, before drifting to the bottom. Hurrying away, I heard the splash of another person who was unlucky enough to drop their tray into the tub and splash themself. It was followed by a gasp.
Walking out the door, I checked my wrist for where I was meant to be. Ever since I started training 3 weeks ago, I had memorized protocol. Wake up at 7, use the bathroom for whatever needs, get a tatoo that would say what you had to do and where you had to be, then eat breakfast. The tatoos would stay on for a week, giving you the protocol schedule. I noticed mine said "Training: 9:56, Barrack building 7, room 184". I entered my bathroom, knowing today was the day of the alliance. One wrong thing happening could set us back a few months.
...
I walked into the large, musty room where 200 other people, about my age, were, including Daniel. I walked next to him as the instructer came in. He held his notebook and pen, wearing large, yellow and brown spectacles, long, baggy green camaflouge type pants and a red and brown striped shirt.
Instructer: Alright, today is our final training day. Here's the agenda: Group A will work with markmanship,
Group B will be on tank training,
Group's C, E and F will be in the set up scenarios,
and Group G will be on crisis training. You will all rotate after 30 minutes. We will be here till 13:03 of training, except for members of Groups A, E and G whom will report to Aircraft carrier 7 outside at 11:58. You may begin.Me and Daniel, and the rest of Group A walked over to the marksmanship stations, with three lines forming. Each person in the group (about 18 total) would grab the gun with rubber bullets and hit the targets. Most of our group was doing well with it, as I got several far back targets with a rifle before reloading for the next person.
The whistle blew as we all moved to the next section. Tanks were tricky because they required good coordination. Twice, we almost crashed into a wall while navigating through thick, fake jungle like terrain. Above me, was Daniel, who was getting ready to fire on another girl, Jenna's yell. Readying our tank into position, we could hear the "FIRE!" from above. This was followed by a resounding boom as a cnadbag hit a makeshift wall, blasting through.
Time skip, cause I can't bother writing anymore about thease training activities...
The carrier was a large, sleek black thing resembling a mix between a helicopter and a limo. Inside, there were about 200 other people, all with a rifle in hand. I clitched my knife and hand pustol tightly, making sure to keep it poinyed down like i'd learned to. Daniel dissapered, probably going up to the front with his father who would be the pilot.
I sat in a solo compartment, knowing the time we would be flying would be perfect to catch up on some much needed sleep. Just as I began drifting, my surroundings changed. I felt everything solid around me turn to dust as I was floating in a space I had never seen. I could not see. I could not feel. I could not even feel.
Then, reality came back. But my surroundings were different. I appeared to be in a bunker of some kind. The walls were solid stone and iron and lined with pictures of my dad. There were also several jewels around.
Now, I could hear a sobbing. I recognized it as my mother, who was sitting over in the middle of the room, at the opisite end from where I stood. She appeared to be sitting in a low chair, hugging tight a large cloth. Getting closer, I realized the thing she was holding had golden beads on its rim. On one side, I could vaguely make out the words "Henry Stic". I stood there in shock. Looking over to large box beside her, there were 3 items: a black hat with a golden "S" and a rim covered in green shiny balls.
Next to it were two photos. The first, of my dad appearing in a similar fashion as he looked in his photo in the hall of leaders. Beside it was a photo of him, next to my mother. Both of them were smiling, holding a bundle of blankets.
As I got closer, I realized there were tufts of brown hair poking out of them. Now, I could see a small face, similar to mine, except it looked much smaller. Looking behind thease items, I saw a golden plate with engraved words that said "In memory of Henry Stickmin. A leader, a husband and a father.". Now I could hear my mother speaking. Her voice was shaky and I could hear the occasional inhale as though she was holding in the urge to puke.
Ellie: I'm...I'm sorry. I couldn't keep our...our promise. They....they her. They took Hannah. They took Hannah.
She put her head back into the cloth and I heared several sobs. Then, I heard something else. It was a loud speaker with a voice coming out of it that I did not recognize.
Speaker: Attetion all Toppats. A government arial vehicle has been detected heading for the site. If you wish to be evacuated, go to the east side of building T. Otherwise, we're in for 1 hell of a battle.
I saw my mother grab a knife and cover it with something. Her expression changed: from sadness and greif, it became cold, icy anger. Her features darkened as I saw a dangerous glint in her eyes. When she spoke, it seemed she was an entirely different person. She breathed heavily with every word.
Ellie: Those bastards. They take my husband. They take my child. Now they want to take me!?
Her fist slammed on the coffin, a crack apperering in it's surface. Yet, her eyes paid no attention.
Ellie: I'll show them. I'll show those fucking bastards.
Now, she appeared to be laughing slightly, the glint brightening as I sensed a coldness. Her lips cracked into a psychotic smile.
Ellie: I'll show them. I'll fucking, FUCKING SHOW THEM!
As she yelled the last words, my head exploded in pain. I knelt down, grabbing my forehead with both my hands, only for reality to dissolve around me. And as suddenly as it had gone, it all came back.
I looked around. No one was near and I couldn't see a camera in site. Sighing, I noticed my forehead was covered in sweat. My arms were shaking as I found my pulse had quickened significantly. Looking at a clock on the wall, I saw the time which told me we had been in the air for 4 hours now. I placed my hand above my eye, still remembering what I'd seen.
Charles: Alright resistance members, we are nearing the Dogobogo jungle shortly so, I'd advise you get into your positions.
Wiping my face with a nearby tissue, I grabbed my weapons and made my way to the drop off zone on the other side of the ship, grabbing a parachute from Rupert. There were 63 other people there, including Daniel who appeared excited.
Daniel: Can't wait to get down and be in an actual battle.
Hannah: I'd be carefull if I was you. After all, from what they know, we're just government forces.
I readied myself as the door opened. The air brushed against my face, making me shiver slightly. A light above us turned green, and 12 people (about 18-19) ran past us and jumped out.
From where I was, I could see a compound. The building were made of stone and crumbling. Two radio towers, which looked like they hadn't been used in years, stood on opisite sides of the compound, moss and vines covering their surfaces.
I breathed as I heard the ding, followed by the green light, and leapt forward, parachute on my back. I was ready.
