Chapter 10: the cure

The new day rose and Lyle sat on the floor on the blanket in the opera house and looked at a map seeing how to get to the military base.

The prime minster walked in the room and Lyle told him he was ready to go to Lancer base and the prime minster wished Lyle good luck with the mission.

Lyle and prepped his bow on his back and Edith prepared her slingshot on her holster and Sam put his bb gun in his pocket and Lyle walked to the side exit with Edith and Sam.

They went south and walked to the carpark and got in the car and drove to the base hitting undead with the cars spoilers as they went.

They drove back to the highway were all cars were rotted and empty.

On the other side of the highway was Lancer base Lyle saw guards firing at undead that were attacking at the gates.

There was undead blocking the way to the base but Lyle saw a opening a jump that would let them get off the highway and to the bases front gates but there were undead blocking that way too, Lyle had an idea and backed up and revved forward hitting the undead horde and pushed them off the road onto the floor below.

They landed on the grassy area and accelerated to the gates, Edith and Lyle saw undead attacking the gates coming closer to the soldiers they were having trouble with the undead.

Edith wielded her slingshot and Lyle equipped his bow and aimed it at the undead and a coin wedged in one undead head and one arrow planted below a undead eye and they both dropped to the ground, Sam aimed his Bb gun at the last undead and shot it and it dropped to the floor.

The army men saw Edith and Sam and said " woah" they were pretty impressed but they didn't know who she or her brother was so they aimed at their ak47's at Edith and Sam and told them to raise their hands for shooting near the base.

Lyle said that they were with him and the army men looked up at Lyle and recognised him from training and lowered their weapons, they asked Lyle to stay there while they get the general and tell him about who was here.

After a while a man in a grey moustache and green uniform with medals, on his chest this was Sargent Robbins, he recognised Lyle and asked what he was doing here and shouldn't he be with his wife?

Lyle explained his wife got bitten and infected and Robbins said he was sorry about what happened and Lyle went on to explained he was here because he was here to protect Edith and Sam and that they found a cure for the disease and pulled out the cure vile from his front pocket and showed it up to Robbin's face.

Robbins was impressed and asked were he got the cure from and Lyle explained they got it from a mad dentist who was obsessed with working on it.

Robbins asked Lyle and Edith and Sam to come with him to the bases lab, Lyle agreed and they walked together to the lab on the other side of the base.

They entered the base and they saw men in white coats with clipboards writing stuff down and Robbins held the cure out in front of him and shouted they have the cure.

A head scientist with glasses came out and took the cure vile from Robbins hands and told Lyle this was great and now they can make some more to give to the world this was simply ground breaking news and the world was saved.

The scientist with the glasses gave the cure to his other scientist freind's and clapped said told them they now have a mission to make some more cure to give to the world and thanked Lyle for everything and told him the vaccine will get to them soon and soon they'll be safe again.

Lyle smiled and shook his hand and watched the scientist walk off to work on making more cure.

Lyle thanked the Sargent and said they needed to go to tell the Sydney opera house the vaccine the cure will come soon and they'll be joyful of the news.

As Lyle, Edith and Sam walked back but the sergeant stopped them and asked Lyle if he would come back and fight with the base again he'll be a great asset in fighting the infected.

Lyle said no he can't because his top priority was to look after Sam and Edith and they need Lyle more than the military and Edith was like a daughter to him and she was like a daughter to him.

Edith smiled and Robbin said that he understood and wished Edith and Lyle good luck on their travels and thanked him once again for giving them the cure.

Lyle said it was a pleasure and saluted Robbins and walked away with Edith and Sam back to the gates and got back in the car.

They drove round and ran over the undead of the exit of the highway and flattened them and got back on the highway and drove back to Sydney opera house.

They arrived back at the opera house and got out the car and walked to the side exit and back inside, and into the audimrium saw the prime minister and told him that the cure had been delivered and they are working on making more and it will come to the opera house soon.

The prime minister thought that was great and all the people in the room sat down applauded in happiness and the prime minister said that Lyle, Edith  and Sam are welcomed to live there so that they could be safe.

Lyle said thanks and Edith and Sam smiled and was happy they had somewhere to live and somebody to protect them.

Now all they had to do was wait for the military to come and give them the cure and everything would be back to normal in a matter of time.

It would just take some waiting and they hoped it wouldn't take long.
