Sawada Tsunayoshi was an odd little boy that no one in Namimori quite knew what to make of.
He had always been skittish around people and seemed to be extremely uncomfortable in crowds, yet he was also possibly one of the most helpful children they had ever met. Offering to assist with putting things away, helping little old ladies, standing up for other kids when bullies showed up even if he didn't ike drawing attention to himself.
The librarian would have told you that he was interested in the oddest things like Latin and Norse Runes, but didn't seem to understand very well what to do with other children when they tried to talk to him, no matter how often they tried to draw him into conversation.
The teachers could have told you that whilst he was learning Japanese (his native language) just as well as all the others in class (despite sometimes being quite certain that yes, he should be using the female terms for things in reference to himself, like a little girl would), that his grasp on English was almost flawless for a child that didn't have anyone speaking English to him from a young age. And he rarely ever had a problem with the subject matter, usually only getting confused with the names of things.
The neighbours probably would mention how he was always climbing trees and one time had decided to see if he could climb the house, before his mother pried him off the wall laughing about her 'silly Tsu-kun' not being spiderman. They hadn't seen his father since he was born, and were half convinced he was dead.Tsuna himself, would have thought he was perfectly normal.
He always had these little voices in his head, telling him what was about to happen, one of them was like a whisper, lean left, dodge that way, move that thing over there instead. And it had never been wrong, so he trusted it to continue to be helpful and left it at that.
The other... he was absolutely certain was him. His thoughts. But they sounded like a girl, and he... wasn't? Or was he? The teachers said no, but that had never really been something of a source he'd relied on, and his mother just said that 'Tsu-kun was Tsu-kun' which the voice pointed out in it's generally sarcastic way was super unhelpful.
She pointed out interesting things to do when the boredom struck and answered questions to things he'd never even heard of. It wasn't until his teachers wondered about putting him up a class that he realised she only ever spoke in English.
He'd never met his father so couldn't ask about if he was a she or not, and the way his mother talked about the 'star in the sky' thought he was likely dead anyway. Although his thoughts disagreed, pointing out that his mom doesn't have a job and still affords the house and very nice things. If he wasn't dead all this time, and just... nowhere to be found, then he wasn't in a hurry to question him at any point in the future either. So when he heard from mom that his dad was coming home, having said to tell him about the star thing to seem romantic, and bringing his boss with him, Tsuna was both heavily unimpressed, and absolutely terrified.
Both voices were screaming not to go anywhere near the old man that wanted to be called Grandpa Timoteo.
Now... this was far easier said than done, as it was a weekend, he had no real friends to speak of (a combinationofliving in the library and havingno idea what to do with another kid his age), wasn't allowed to leave the house on his own because he was only 5, and the old man seemed not to understand what his avoidance meant, or take it as the hint he should have. His 'father' was also being a nuisance, trying to catch him at any moment, fling him up in the air, calling him a 'Tuna-fishie' constantly, and just generally trying way too hard to befriend a small boy that had never met him that it was creepy.
The second voice was rather disgusted at that, and he spent a few hours listening as she mumbled about stranger danger being a thing no matter how closely related you are, and how just because they were related didn't mean it was a good idea to listen to him. Tsuna wasn't complaining, he agreed after all.
