A step in the right direction

9 a.m
It was a hot Sunday morning and despite trying her hardest to sleep in and take advantage of the last part of the weekend, Aaliyah found herself wide awake bright and early.
Peeling the covers off herself, she sat upright and stretched before trudging over to the shared family bathroom - one of the things Aaliyah disliked the most about living at home was having to share a bathroom with the rest of her family as she was now an adult and needed privacy, but that was the last thing on her current list of priorities, with
the number one thing being to finally stop being fickle and try her best achieve her dream of becoming a singer as soon as she could, as if this didn't work out soon then she'd have to do some serious rethinking of her future.

Now back in her bedroom, Aaliyah picked out an outfit and decided that todays occasion called for a little more effort being put into her appearance.
The agenda for the day was to meet her friends at the downtown park where all the local creatives gathered to show off their skills and have fun, Aaliyah herself was planning on joining in today, after finally building up the courage to let others hear her sing.

12pm

Aaliyah's day had been going well so far, she was enjoying the chill vibe and good music surrounding her.
She was snapped out of her daze by her best-friend Lisa urging her to sing along with them.
Aaliyah stood up and took a deep breath before joining in and singing along, she projected her voice as well as she could and her vision of succeeding pushed her to sing at the top of her lungs to the point that she even surprised herself with how effortless her voice was pouring out of her.

The end of the short impromptu session was met with cheers and claps of support from all those who had gathered around to her watch them perform.
Lisa patted her on the back and flashed her a proud smile, Aaliyah returned the smile with flushed cheeks, the embarrassment finally flooding in. Despite this, she felt really positive about her performance and this was the highest her confidence regarding her voice had been in a very long time.

After wrapping up here; Aaliyah, Lisa and a few of their other friends walked over to an ice cream stall and treated themselves to a well deserved ice cold treat after all that time they spent under the blazing sun.
Ice creams in hand, the group of friends began making their way out of the park, passing their previous spot on the way and were stopped by one of the other performers who introduced himself as Jayden.

" You were amazing out there today, you should definitely come back next week. We've heard that a label rep is going to be here to scout some fresh talent, seems as though word of what happens here has spread" he said while smiling, mostly as Aaliyah.

Aaliyah smiled back and replied "thanks Jayden, you weren't so bad yourself-"

Lisa interrupted with an emphasised " well in that case we'll definitely be back next week" before saying bye and dragging Aaliyah along with her.

"He was definitely checking you out Liyah" she said while smirking

Aaliyah began blushing again
" no he was not" she rolled her eyes at Lisa but they both broke into wide grins and linked arms before bouncing out of the park while excitedly discussing how they were going to impress the rep next week.

10pm

Aaliyah could not sleep that night, she tossed and turned out of excitement. The high of today was still running through her and the prospect of the very small but still existing possibility of being scouted was thrilling and she couldn't stop herself from creating scenarios in her head of where she could end up if it did come true. She turned over once more, sleep finally heavy on her eyelids and let her mind wander one last time before drifting into a peaceful sleep.

Her moment to shine had arrived, she could just feel it in the air.
