I walked to the exit of the market expecting the two girls waiting for me, and I even prepared myself for an earful. However, only the wicked witch was there. She was standing by the door with her backpack on the ground looking bored. “Found anything?” She asked when she saw me coming. I nodded making her raise her eyebrows in surprise.
“Wow. I wasn’t really expecting anything from you.” She snorted. I looked down at her bag to see that it didn’t look that full. I gave her a questioning look and she rolled her eyes. “You got lucky, ok? That is all that was left.” She said kicking her bag lightly. I contemplated whether to tell her that there is more in the storage room but I decided against it. I don’t really care about their group.
I wonder why most survivors raid the shelves. It’s as if the only food that is left in the world id on them. There are many places where we can find food, but no. Shelves.
We waited nearly fifteen minutes for Catherine to arrive, and when she did she was carrying on her back a bag that looked full and in her hand a bag of uncooked popcorn. Popcorn. Do you know how noisy it is to make popcorn? It’ll certainly attract some unwanted attention. “Please tell me your bag isn’t filled with this.” The wicked witch said pointing at the popcorn. Catherine scoffed holding her popcorn close to her. “No, it is filled with canned food.” At least she’s not that stupid. She actually got some food.
As soon as they started discussing how they’ll make the popcorn I turned around and left the market because the only thing they’re doing is waste time in something so pointless.
The streets were empty save for a zombie or two, so it was pretty safe to walk back to the tool shop where everyone is. As I walked, I thought about what Kenny wanted me to do. He wanted me to steal his ammo from this awfully suspicious and awful group and I had till tomorrow night to do it. Ok, so maybe this group is not doing so badly, but all they do is gather food and hole themselves up in some place and hide.
They only get out to get food and they already have plenty of it. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but soon they’ll have to move to another place when the number of zombies increase. The food they collected is going to be the first hurdle since it is too much. They may even be forced to leave some behind. Next is their way of surviving. Settling down in one place makes you even more prone to danger. You’ll feel too safe and will let your guard down.
If this happens then the zombies will either notice you, trap you and kill you. Or other survivors may attack you and at least strip you down from your hard-earned supplies. Plus, you’ll have no experience in dealing with the undead. One day, the streets will be filled with them and you having no experience from holing yourself in one place will make you join them as another mindless zombies. Amelia, Catherine and even Ryan seem to not know a lot about how to deal with zombies.
“Rod! Wait up!” I heard Catherine yell behind me. The wicked witch immediately placed her hand on top of Catherine’s mouth to silence her. I cursed turning around and placing my index finger in front of my mouth to tell her to shut up. This proves my point. She knows nothing. Sadly, we the wicked witch was too late. I really did not expect Catherine to be stupid enough to yell in the middle of the street.
This of course made all the zombies in hearing range alert to our presence. Two zombies became three, and three became four and the four became a five. Even more hungry zombies appeared getting out of the buildings and alleys when they heard her. They surrounded is from every direction. There were approximately fourteen zombies making their way to us. I had to think quickly so I ran Catherine and snatched the popcorn from her hand and I threw it far away at a car.
